Soo... in these times of $4 a gallon gas and food prices going up.... i need extra income. Plus my fiance broke his back and cannot work for 6 months now. :(
I'm sure some of you have come across this too.
What do you guys do when this happens? When one job isn't cutting it, even though you are making a decent salary... do you take on a 2nd job? Suggestions for that 2nd job? I have always heard about these data entry and medical billing you can do at home but have NEVER found one legit job.
Anyone else having hard times and just not knowing what to do?
Lately I just have been feeling like jumping off a bridge.... and that is so not me. :(

I hear ya...looking into a second job now. I'm far removed from the manual labor days of old and have gotten quite comfy at my desk, but it may be time to brush off the old work boots for 20 hours a week.!

Yea I hear that. I can't really do manual labor. I'm going to take a walk down the beach over the weekend and see if any of the restaurants/shops need some help. Sucks bc I hate that kind of thing, but I have to figure this out.

Sorry to hear that you're having a hard time :( I hope things look up for you soon!

I know there are legit jobs out there, because I have friends that work from home, but I can't find one! So here's what I do when extra income is needed:

    * eBay! you'd be amazed at how much "stuff" you have that you don't really need. auction it off! Also, when I was a stay at home mom, I would go to the goodwill in the nice part of town, purchase barely used name brand clothing for super cheap and resell it for a profit. (eta - just noticed you're in seattle - it's the bellevue goodwill :) shhh...don't tell too many people)

    * waitress/bartending- both of these jobs are usually easy to get, if you work weekends bartending or waiting tables, you can earn quite a bit (for me it was generally $100-200 per weekend night on weekends for bartending, but that depends on where you work)

    * barista - my sister used to work the 3am to 8am shift at an espresso stand and was able to make pretty good $$ - not quite as much as bartending - but don't have to deal with drunk people either (just sleepy, cranky people ;))

    * odd tech jobs - I work with computers, and there are always people that want their computers worked on - or just taught how to use them. If you're tech savvy - even a little bit - and patient, you can teach folks how to use their computers and earn quite a bit doing it.

    Good luck!!! dawn

I'm actually thinking about hitting up Disneyland or Knotts on the weekends for the summer hours as well. It's nice being able to have places that close that hire at anytime. Shit, I've quit and gone back to Knotts 4 times in 7 years. If I would have just stayed, I could probably have a nice career there right now. :p

I like where I'm at now though, but it's nice to have that. I'm not sure if I wanna give up that much free time, or deal with tourists though yet. So we'll see, but I've really thought about it hard lately. Even if it is just $100/week. It'll still help. That'll pay all my gas for the week and drinking money for the weekends.

I'm starting to take the train to work. Hope to save us a few bucks every month, and keep the mileage off my truck.

I remember a couple of years back I decided to go a whole month with only sack lunches and home-cooked dinners. By the end of the month I had almost an extra $300 in my checking account.

Can you earn extra dough by utilizing the skills from your current job/career?

Great ideas! I love the one about reselling Goodwill clothes. :) I actually thought about picking up the free crap on craigslist and then selling it. You never know, people throw out good stuff.

If anyone knows of a legit work at home job, that'd be ideal. But like I said I'll be checking out places to work over the weekend. I applied at the Grocery Store a long time ago and they never called me. :(

I'm an Executive Assistant... so I dunno. If I could find any data entry jobs or something like that, that I could do at home, then yea. But i can't seem to find any.

Do you know any drafting programs, like AutoCad, or Microstation or and modeling programs like PDS?

There's always engineers that'll give out sidework to people to draft their drawings for them.

Before my current job, I used to be a barista, so when I need some extra cash, I always pick up a few extra hours a week slinging coffee. I know you're in Seattle too, send me a PM if you need some help or want to chat :D I'll be there for you if you need it. I'm sure you'll make it through, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger.

i work part-time most of the year but my job becomes full-time during the holiday season (toy company)
i picked up a few extra part-time jobs with merchandising companies in the past few years and i think it's time to do it again, unfortunately.

i sell stuff on ebay but this isn;t the best time of year for that... try the winter, stuff sells better.

Um yea no. I have too much respect for myself to do that. Though I can only hope you are kidding.

Thanks everyone else. I appreciate the ideas. I already posted two ads offering childcare and petcare. So far, no one needing any. Oh well. Everything always works out... so I appreciate the concern, I'm sure it will work out. :)

Well....It's pretty much my standard answer for a lot of things money related.

    Hookers and Blow

Last week my line for people that asked what I was doing with my stimulus check was "hookers and blow"
