Facts you know that completely contradict received wisdom
I'll start:
Jimi Hendrix was in fact right-handed. He wrote with his right. He just played leftie.

And I believe his guitar was always upside down, at least it appears so from all the videos & pis I've seen. I have to admit, I thought he was left handed.

As far as I can work out, he wasn't one of these lefties made to write right-handed. He was comfortable writing with his right. Some people have suspected that he had a hereditary bone condition in his right wrist that made leftie playing more comfortable. The truth may be that he was ambidextrous. Those Vais and Satrianis are just lucky he wasn't around in the era of ten finger tappin'.
Any non-music related nuggets?
Obscure question, it requires deep thought, but a very good one.

i've heard kurt cobain was the same way.
Consider this example.
A woman cuts off part of a ham before cooking it. When asked why she cuts part of it off that is perfectly good, she responds "That is the way my mother cooked ham.". When her mother is asked "Why do you cut part of the ham away before cooking?" she replies "That's the way my mother did it.". When the grandmother is asked the same question, she replies "It's the only way I could fit it in my pan."
So, you see that this knowledge of ham preperation became tradition and so the daughters prepared the ham the same. But that part was only neccessary for the grandmother who didn't have a large enough pan.
Men and women alike try to rationalize the tradition of putting the toilet seat down. Their arguments are everything logically falacious. "That's the way I was raised.", "It's common curtesy", "It's tradition", etc... none of these arguments explain logically why this is in-fact the right thing to do. It must be assumed that men owe something to women, or that women are inherently worthy of such treatment, while men are not, since women do not lift the seat up when they are finished. We get into another mess of logical fallacies when trying to explain why that would be. The way I see it, the only logical conclusion is for everyone to put the seat and lid down to prevent foreign objects from entering the toilet. But this is a difficult point to make in the face of tradition.
jeff buckley was left handed but played guitar right handed. my daughter is the same.
