... that you write a very witty, but slightly cryptic remark, the perfectly formed jokey riposte to the thread starter's question. Then, a few posts later, someone obviously sees your work of genius, and "popularises" it (that is, divests it of its true comedic brilliance) and gets howls of laughter from a load of custard pie heads?

Bastards.

good for you......although 'brothers in arms' is one of my favorite albums of all times....:o
  • It isn't always the easiest thing to read dark/sarcastic humor on the internet. Especially when you found yourself shocked, at first as a newbie, by the things people say on here and then realize some of these people are dead serious. Unless I feel I know you well, I take everything I read here at face value.
If you want to tell people the truth, make them laugh, otherwise they'll kill you.

If you're saying what I think you're saying. Yes. It's happened to me. When ugly guys like me say something funny. It's never funny.

  • I dunno. Sometimes the Internet shocks me. I'm used to people speaking with such a highly developed sense of irony that it's intentionally working at multiple levels simultaneously with all puns/innuendos/allusions there. And I'm talking about bricklayers, cab drivers, dossers, drunks, murderers: you know, normal people.

hey Fins, would you be speaking of the Biking with your dog thread?

because i read that and thought exactly what you are talking about here after your reply in that thread. then read this and laughed my ass off.

Yep, there are a bunch of times when people are obviously being ironic but no one picks up on it because there aren't any emoticons. Then there are like ten replies of "your retarted" before someone finally points out the humor in it.

    i.e. this post: http://forums.pearljam.com/showpost.php?p=5230993&postcount=6

    and the responses:
    http://forums.pearljam.com/showpost.php?p=5232290&postcount=10
    http://forums.pearljam.com/showpost.php?p=5233079&postcount=20

There are much better examples (I think you get my drift), but that's the first that popped into mind. But still... come on people! :D

I had one ( a long time ago) where someone was talking about the song "Arms Wide Open". It as in an obvious 'all about PJ' thread.
I asked which album it was on.
You should have seen the responses.
    It was a joke.
    Fell flatter than a pancake.

Yeah, speaking of which, isn't it really annoying when you make a joke and someone else quotes you to say exactly the same thing but they get the laughs, as if they came up with it??!! Hahahaha ROFLMAO
