I was always taught that it isn't but I did a quick google search and everyone is saying it is. Now I'm all confused.

Zero is a number. It is included in the Real Numberline, Rational Numberline, Integer Numberline, and Whole Numberline.

It's okay..it's between 1 and -1..just holding the spot..or you can think of it as a number ;)..

As long as you understand in your particular way, I don't think there is a right or wrong answer ;)..

I thought zero is a number in the same way negative numbers are
Ah well, this is why I gave up on Maths as soon as possible...

0 is the number your left with when you have diminished all quantites.

That's not true. Black IS a colour, the colour of an object that emits and reflects no light at all.

    Maths is evil.

I am absolutely hopeless with numbers. So bad at Maths at school. The day my GCSE exam was done and dusted was one of the best feelings ever. I think it's because maths is logical and I have no place for logic in my life.

Yeah me too. Although I got a pretty good grade in my Maths GCSE. A long, long time ago mind :o I'm sooo glad now my eldest has moved onto A-level maths...it means I can abandon all pretence at helping him with his homework ;)

Hah :D I got a B in GCSE which was above my expectation but considerably lower than the expectations of my teacher who had forced me into staying in the top set as if to give me mathematical ability by osmosis or something

I then dropped it and found A-level Physics excruciating until I dropped it after AS-level :p The level of Maths needed to do it, in the words of my teacher, exceeded that of GCSE and yet he made no attempt to help me out, he just liked saying to the whole class "So who here doesn't do Maths again?", meaning me.

    Bastard.

I do think 0 is a number though. If 1 is a numerical representative of a single item then surely 0 is a numerical representative of no items, it shouldn't matter that it represents nothingness, the signifier is still something.

off the top of my head....

    yes zero is a number.
if zero was not a number then what would the negative digits be?

    numbers are everything and everywhere.

i could go into further detail about the universe and mathematics
but i am cooking breakfast and have a head ache.

what about mathematics in word problems?

that shit is brutal most times.

    edit:
had fun actually in class doing this shit last week.
