so how is it that during the olympics, great britain stands as one, but when it comes to the commonwealth games they come as the individual countries?

    I think it's because for the Olympics Great Britain is politically one country, whereas countries competing in the Commonwealth Games are mostly countries that were once british colonies, so it makes more sense to split up the UK into the different countries like the olden days.

    This was discussed a few years back and apparently the Olympic federation won't allow us to compete as separate nations. No idea why.

    the olympic committee doesnt recognise the independence of wales, NI, scotland and england as they are bound together to form one country.
    oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.

    we? you mean as the united great britain? australia consistently punches far above her weight in sports. besides, id expect a 'country' with nearly 3 times as many people in it to be more successful on average. :)

    Actually it is the England and Wales cricket board :p we just never get a mention :( and one of the Ashes tests next year is actually in Cardiff :)

    NO, for goodness sake that's a rugby stadium, the field is far too small for cricket.
