Anyone have any info?

Most actors would do better to quit acting after pulling off a role like Daniel Plainview in There Will Be Blood. That was most likely the best performance in the history of cinema. I watch alot of movies. But I have NEVER seen an actor actually become the character. I wasnt seeing Daniel Day lewis playing someone. He was Daniel Plainview.

And its not like he has a horrible resume either. Literally every single film he has ever done deserve praise, not just praise but bowing down admiration.

The guy is the best living actor. No one is even in the same building. There are other amazing actors Deniro, Pacino, Hoffman (Dustin and Phillip seymour), actors of our generation Emile Hersh, Evan Rachel Wood, Josh Peck, etc... who deserve alot of credit, but none are really even worthy of any comparison at all, and I am huge fans of all of their work.

With Daniel Day Lewis, he gives his all. He approaches acting unlike any other actor I have ever heard of. He talks of being in depression following films because he not only identifies with but actually transforms into character.

Who beyond him, would be willing to construct and build a house and live in it without electricity (as he did for The Crucible)? Live on an island away from friends and family (Jack and Rose). Learning to live off the land, and hunt and gather food (Last of the mohicans). Refuse to break character for my left foot and use a wheelchair for basically the entire shoot. Spent time in a real jail in preperation for In the Name of the Father.

There are actors...and then there is Daniel Day Lewis. The guy is an absolute maniac.

Plus the guy isnt into pushing crap product. Every SINGLE MOVIE HE APPEARS IN, is worthy of the praise, and acclaim it recieves

    DDL is the man.

His next film will be 9, and yes, it's from the Broadway show that took from Fellini's film 8 1/2. It should be interesting...

i agree but its more than that...
I cant act so to criticize anyones acting is pretty crazy for me.

But for most people it seems most actors just merely memorize lines. they dont do much at all. memorizing lines is hard no doubt, and to memorize an entire movie length worth of them would be insane. But do they make you feel? Do they cause the audience to feel emotions? I would wager they dont.

With Daniel Day Lewis, watch an interview with him where he talks about his acting process. It isnt just "get script, memorize lines, etc...". Its much more detailed, and intense than that. He doesnt even fully describe it because it scares him in a away that he would reveal to much, and then jinx himself or something.

I fully believe he is a maniac. and thats a compliment. As I said, he's the kind of actor, you go to see ANY project he is in. Reguardless of what critics say. you go to the theater, run to the theater any new DDL project is opening.

The guy doesnt say any single goddamn word in the first 20 minutes of There Will be Blood, yet you arent bored, you arent in the theater, checking your text messages, and you arent thinking "what is this crap, where are the words and action". He played a fully formed character WITHOUT saying a single word, in the first 20 minutes! Unreal.

Imagine as I alluded to before, memorizing lines, becoming a character, and then BUILDING A FULLY FUNCTIONING HOUSE FOR YOUR ROLE! Its like some actors are good, some go BEYOND. WAY BEYOND. Is it any question which one DDL fits into?

  • indeed, i think between the crucible in 96 to gangs of new york he was a shoemaker in ireland i believe. Sounds like Scorsese had to pressure or cajole DDL into coming out of hiding and returning to acting.

he follows his own path, which is one of the coolest things about him. He has amazing integrity.

Clearly you didn't see Harrison Ford in the new Indy film. Now that is brilliant acting in a brilliant film.
