do you remember your nighttime dreams? Do you typically have nightmares or good dreams?

What is your take on their meanings and significance? Are they merely your mind replaying your day? Are they subconscious signs of what your should do and shouldnt do?

little movies to entertain you while you sleep.

Largely mean nothing , although I think it's a mechanism for working out perplexing conscious problems.

  • i remember a lot of my dreams and have lucid dreams fairly often. Both nightmares and good dreams. Most of my dreams are a replaying of my day or things going on in my life with some strange images, etc. that give me insight into things I've been thinking about. I think my dreams are a tool to pay attention to things I don't always have the time or insight to focus on during the waking hours. If I dream about rodents it means I'm stressed :p
There's a light when my baby's in my arms :)
  • if my dreams are my mind replaying my day, I need to start paying more attention while I'm awake, because apparently I went to the movies yesterday and the power went out and a giant spider had turned off the power and surrounded the entire theatre in a web and....well, it just keeps getting weirder. I can't imagine I would miss something like that happening to me, but hey, you never know, I do space out a lot
"Ah, life is a gate, a way, a path to Paradise anyway, why not live for fun and joy and love or some sort of girl by a fireside, why not go to your desire and LAUGH..."
  • My girlfriend has a lot of vivid nightmares. I don't know why, but it bothers me... makes me think she lives in fear too much... living life defensively versus me who happens to be more of a new-experience, risk-taking type.

I sometimes remember dreams. I love them. So much fun. Aside from the occasional night where an ex slips into them and then I wake up depressed.
she was underwhelmed, if that's a word
  • I remember few dreams. I don't think they "mean" anything. Last week, I had a dream that I walked in on these two sisters (that I know) about to have sex with some random guy. One of the sisters answered the door completely naked and all I remember thinking is, "oh my God! Her boobs are so white!"
The next day, in real life, she came in to eat at the restaurant and that's when I remembered the dream. hahaha. I could barely look at her....
I really screwed that up. I really Schruted it.
  • I have very vivid dreams and something weird thats been happening is i just get dream flashbacks randomly during the day, dreams that i had up to 10 years ago. Its freakin me out a bit :P

I used to have all sorts of crazy-ass dreams (usually fighting shadowy figures that I could never quite kill). Now days I don't remember my dreams at all. What does that mean?

Oddly enough, I have the exact same dream often, but usually when I'm awake.

    This basically.

I have very vivid dreams pretty regularly, although I forget the details soon after waking up unless they are extremely memorable. Most of them are easily interpreted by myself and seem to relate to my life at the time, however obscure and abstract they seem at first.
"I remember one night at Muzdalifa with nothing but the sky overhead, I lay awake amid sleeping Muslim brothers and I learned that pilgrims from every land — every colour, and class, and rank; high officials and the beggar alike — all snored in the same language"

I had recurring nuclear war and tornado dreams forever...still do once in a while...it's to the point that they don't even freak me out anymore. I also used to have one where all my teeth fell out at once. That sucked more than mushroom clouds.

On a related note...I had my first ever PJ dream two nights ago. I was at a show and Ed left the stage...my friend came running up and told me to come with him b/c Ed was at a concession trying to buy a round of beer for the crowd...he asked me to carry a few back to the stage for him :D
    Dreams are fucked lol...
  • I never remember my dreams, but I know I have them because sometimes I wake up depressed, then I spend the morning kind of walking around in a fog, I feel distant from myself, it that makes any sense.
    I'm spinning, oh, I'm spinning

  • I love how people really think dreams mean nothing. Like it's not "if you dream about an elephant, then you want your sister to die" but they are definitely your subconscious trying to tell you something.

Tell you what- dreams are not psychic, you won't predict the future in them, and dream dictionaries are crap. But if you scratch the surface just a little, it's an amazing thing to explore.

NOT true. Your subconscious is fillled with everything you've ever wanted to know, or have known....

there are SO many other layers to us (humans) and the dream state is just one of them. I encourage everyone to keep a dream book. Yeah, every dream isnt significant but most of them are. Just keep track of them and try to remember. You will get better at it with time and at worst, it will keep you a bit more in tuned to your "other" self...

well my "other" self MUST be the silent type , cuz I rarely if ever remember what I dreamed. What could THAT mean.

The worst dreams are when you are on the patch to quit smoking. I dreamt that I beat my cat to death with a slipper
    - my cat died a few months later :( To top it off, I wasn't successful in that attempt to quit. That was over eight years ago, and it's still as vivid as the night it happened.

Lately, I've been having dreams about beheading people  I swear I'm not psycho or anything, but I am curious as to what that dream means. Any ideas?

I had a dream that my Mom died last night for one.

Everything has just been way more vivid.

That is very disturbing. I hate it when I dream that family members die. It scares the shit out of me.

Are you still in pain because of your wisdom teeth removal?

Not really anymore. But I thought I was having the weird dreams because of the pills. But I haven't taken any and about 4 days or so and I'm still having weird dreams.

The meds might still be in your system or you could be deatling with post-trauma (i.e. sugery) stress or you might just need to call your mom and tell her you love her. I don't know what it means, I'm still trying to figure out why I'm beheading people in my dreams  Good-luck!

My Mom's on Vacation in Thailand now so I probably won't be talking to her for awhile.

Personally I think it's stress. I've had a rough month. Major car repairs, teeth, broken phone and lost all the numbers, job security, plus it's the busiest month at our work. I think once I'm off after tomorrow night things will get better . . . . I hope.

Yep . . . sounds like it's stress - your mom probably symbolises your sense of security. It sounds like right now, because of all the shit that's been going on, your feeling of security is under threat. I hope things improve . . . very soon!

I had a very strange and powerful dream the other night. I dreamed my wife and I were driving east on Embarcadero Rd. in Palo Alto and suddenly, off to the right, at about two o'clock on the horizon there was a bright flash of lighting, and 3 or 4 seconds later a loud clap of thunder. Right off the bat, this seemed very odd because it was a gorgeous bright sunny day- not a cloud in sight.
And then a short while later there was another flash of vertical light in the same place as the first lightning but this was time it was not lightning- it was like a tear in the sky. And then it happened again and again and again and I realized that not only was the sky rending, but the entire universe was breaking apart. I was witnessing the end of the universe. It was very, very intense.
