Buying band merch via the net

Wanted to spend some cash buying band shirts via their official websites.
Problem is, of course, you cant try on the shirts before buying which sucks. I am a smaller male, and always get large, however its complicated by the fact who knows if the bands shirts are like PJ, where a large gets shrunk really small upon first wash or not. If I get XL just to be sure, I worry I may end up with a shirt that fits like a dress on me.
Anyways, anyone else have the same fears when buying online?
