Job frustrations, hitting the pavement again

My job has been reasonably nice in letting me work until 9 and no later. I volunteer at a music venue and try to make it to every show.

Lately though the shifts have been later, 3-12 two days last week, 1-10 this week for most days and a few 3-12's thrown in.

I let them know my preference to not work past 9 but wasnt heard obviously.

So its about time to hit the pavement again, look for new jobs. Anyone in the same boat. Had a rough time getting this job, but know its time to move on. If I cant get my hours, thats fine, but i need to have them, so I will look elsewher for jobs.

Is incredibly frustrating. As the volunteering thing is hugely important, and basically the reason I get out of bed.

Did you ask them to try not to schedule you after 9, or did you tell them you're not available after 9?

I know you work at a grocery store, so it follows the same lines of retail most times. Sometimes they have a lot of employees, and schedules are done by more then one person and what not. I used to work in retail management and scheduling my department was a weekly nightmare.

My advice to you, if you leave is telling a place you cannot work after 8:30, or 9 or whatever. Tell them you have prior engagements when you apply, and that you will be unable to ever work after that time. True you might be over looked a few times due to that, but if you really are set on volunteering at this music venue, then you won't be happy with a job that doesn't allow you the time off.

When I worked at retail, we were more likely to hire someone that was totally honest about their working hours, over someone who said they could work it sometimes, but preferred not to. Those honest people were the ones that knew what they wanted, and we just worked around it if it was reasonable.

    good luck to you.

oh and also, there are retail type jobs that do not have late hour commitments.. maybe try looking into that route?
