I cant help......it has made my life a living hell and nothing has worked for me. I dont think people who do not have allergies can understand how bad it is.

When I was in college I was getting shots. It took me almost three years to build up my immunity to maintanance levels. But I could get them right on campus each week. But once I graduated, I had to drive to a clinic (20 mins each way), pay a co-pay of $5-10 each time, and wait 10 minutes after I got the shot in the office to make sure it didnt kill me. Year round. It became so ridiculous, time-consuming and expensive that I gave up on them. They didnt make me allergery-free either, so it just wasnt worth it.
Last year, I actually got pneumonia because a cold sunk into my chest in June and my allergies made it so bad that I had to go on steriods and a nebulizer. As crazy as it sounds, those horrible two weeks turned out to be helpful in the long run, because on the steroids, I had the best allergy season of my life.
So when I went to my allergist this year in April, I got a prescription for a nasal steroid (as a previous poster mentioned) called Nasacort AQ. This, coupled with 180mg of Allegra, have provided me with the best season to date. My eyes are still a bit itchy at times but they're less puffy and red, and I'm not stuffy and congested, and my breathing is so much better than before.
Taking steroids surely isnt for everyone, and I only take them from May-mid July. But this combo has helped me survive the final month of school this year (I teach in a district where there's no AC) without serious illnesses like before. I'd suggest talking to your ENT (EarsNoseThroat Doctor) and trying something similar. Good luck.

They're not supposed to make you allergy-free. They only guarantee a reduction in symptoms, usually to a manageable state.

I'd even take a manageable state, but that wasn't ever the case.

It is with me and I have more-than-moderate seasonal/etc allergies (ragweed, dust, pollen, dander, feathers, maple, cockroaches)

However, The neti pot did offer me temporary (significant relief) without using drugs.
The OP asked for tips, and I offered my opinions. Are you posting replies to me because you believe your opinions are better than mine? Because otherwise, I don't understand your point. Please don't downplay my suggestion just because something different worked for you.
I'm glad you have success with shots. I didn't, and I figured I'd offer some suggestions from my own experiences in case others have the same circumstances.

Relax. You said shots weren't effective for you, I said they were for me and that I have pretty bad allergies. I believe this thread was started by someone asking for tips on how to help w/ seasonal allergies. You were quick to dismiss shots, I was quick to counter with my suggestion that they work for me very well. I didn't "downplay" anything you wrote, and that is entirely not what my post(s) were trying to accomplish. You've taken it way out of context.

I'm relaxed. But why would you even feel the need to counter my post in the first place, especially after you had already weighed in on the matter? Just let your original post speak for itself and leave it at that. I think the OP is intelligent enough to make some conclusions on her/his own.
You mentioned what worked for you, and I'm seriously glad it does, because I know how horrible it feels to suffer from them for such a long stretch of time. But it's so arrogant that you'd quote my original post and try to put some kind of negative spin on it, especially when I wasnt even talking to you or about you.
Also, I wasn't QUICK to dismiss shots at all. If you read my post, I mentioned that I had used them for over three years and had reached maintanance levels for an extended period of time. Since you use them, I'm sure you know that it may take as much as a year or more at a maintanance level before symptoms begin to subside. But at the time, they still didn't diminish the symptoms to any kind of manageable state, and because they had also become an inconvenience, I moved on to the next "treatment." My guess is that the OP will probably have to go through a lot of different treatments in a trial and error situation until s/he finds what works best. I tried to share some experiences of my own, hoping that it might help someone in a similar circumstance. Although they dont match your own, it would be great if you didn't feel the need to try and make mine look like they are any less effective. Thanks.
