Why are the police going after the mafia?

Why?

Anyone else find it so stupid 1/3, 1 freakin third of the NY police department is devoted to bringing down the mafia. Its ludicrous, and outrageous. They should be going after real criminals.

Instead of throwing mob bosses in jail, why not train police to not brutalize and murder citizens because they happen to be the wrong color, or to not shoot bullets at someone because they have a wallet, or to not shove a broom up someones behind and rape them. Maybe instead of throwing capos in jail, they should go after real criminals.

Its dumb and outrageous they are going after the mafia. Leave them alone!

While I would never be asked in the first place to join, I was and am obsessed with the Sopranos and any other mafia movie. I sort of want to be made and become an earner even though there is no way I would be approached. I am a long haired hippie for godssake

I wouldn't mind being a mafioso either. But, then I remember what douchebags they are in real life. Were it not for the police, they'd probably be extorting PJ for all we know. They get romanticized in movies, but it takes only common sense to know that it's all a bunch of b.s. Instead of hating on cops because you got issues with your parents and hate all forms of authority as a result, try to think of how good you got it when you don't have to look over your shoulder because the local hoods want to take your lunch money. And then think of how quickly you'd probably urinate in your pants when and if that were to happen to you.

Hmm... so you watch the sopranos and goodfellas and you know all about the mafia and that they're all actually good guys? And that it's the cops who are the bad guys hunting these poor innocents?

Are you for real? This is the funniest thing I've read for a long time. Get real, the Sopranos and mafia films are not real. Hell, I don't know how you could watch Goodfellas which IS based on a true story and then think that these people aren't real criminals. You are a fan of the idea of shooting anyone, friends and family, if they cross you?

I mean jeez, sure it's glamorous for a while. Until you wake up one day with a gun in your mouth. Fact is, most of the Mafia is not like The Godfather, it's not all honour and family, it's not that whole "we don't touch drugs because drugs are evil, our killing is strictly business" bullshit. The mafia are predominantly drug-dealing, murdering, pimping, racketeering thugs. It's not 1920 any more.

I don't think you realize how scary these people are in real life. Brutal. Evil. Set your house on fire and kill your family for a gambling debt. Cut off people's feet. Kidnap a son, rape him to find a dad. Tie someone up and turn them into a heroin addict.

Don't be foolish and let TV shows make you think the mafia is harmless.

the nicknames are funny, like vinny gorgeous. other than that, there's nothing funny about the mafia, although the movies are interesting but i wouldn't want to associate with any of those people on any level.
