Romantic Comedies

I pride myself on being a person who enjoys cutting edge/radical/experiemental art house films. But I also love romantic comedies.

This probably will not go over well on the board but just wanted to see if there were any other fans of this genre.

Hugh Grant, is one of my favorite actors, even if he plays the same character again and again. He isn’t out to be Deniro or Daniel Day Lewis and I think he would admit that. He is just a good actor. And he is in good movies.

Notting Hill, Love Actually, Serendipity, Four Weddings and a Funeral, are some of my favorites.

Its good to go to see challenging movies, movies that make one think, feel, inspire etc…

But its also good to just escape, and go to a fun movie.

I am excited to see Definitely Maybe in the future. Should be a good one.

Are you asking for suggestions? Anyway, I nearly killed myself in the middle of 'Serendipity,' but you may like it..enjoy..
'I want to hurry home to you
put on a slow, dumb show for you
    and crack you up
so you can put a blue ribbon on my brain
    god I'm very, very frightening
    and I'll overdo it'
  • sure I would like suggestions, I was more just starting a thread to praise romantic comedies. I dont think they get much credit on the board or in society in general. As I said, I dont think they are Citizen Kane or the greatest movies ever, but they are cool and pretty inspiring really.

Does 'Foul Play' with Chevy Chase and Goldie Hawn count? I liked that one..

There are only 2 Rom-Coms worth seeing.

Before Sunrise. And when you're done with that, Before Sunset.

    Oh, High Fidelity too.

I agree... I LOVE rom coms... especially when I'm on my own, there's nothing better than snuggling up on the couch with a bottle of wine and watching something completely ridiculous and unrealistic but lovely like the holiday or Bridget Jones, even pretty woman or dirty dancing... I love them. I like Ashton Kutcher films... there I said it :o

    bridget jones was pretty good.
  • I really like Down With Love.

I'm a fan of 50's and 60's rom coms anyway and this 2003 film captured the magic of the Doris Day/Rock Hudson era perfectly.

The ultimate rom com for me is Shaun of the Dead though... Come on! Its a ZOM ROM COM!! ;)
Been to this many PJ shows: Reading 2006 London 2007 Manchester & London 2009 Dublin, Belfast, London, Nijmegen & Berlin 2010 Manchester 1 & Manchester 2 2012...

... and I still think Drive-By Truckers are better.

Serendipity and High Fidelity are two of my all time faves, and I'm not ashamed to admit it being a bloke! Then again, I like anything with John Cusack in cos I think he's a really good actor. And Kate Beckinsale is a fox :D

    Possibly the cheesiest film ever.

I was like "Why Cusack?, why?"

Kate Beckinsale IS stunning in it though :p Her looks I mean, not her acting.
