1. Do you think dogs know the difference between night and day? Can they tell one day from the next, and if not, do you think they think life is just one REALLY long day?
2. Do you think they think that every time we leave the house and leave them alone that we may never be coming back?
3. What do you think they think of cars? It must be weird, to them it must seem like, it’s a big scary machine that we get into at one location and then when we get out we are in a new location. Must be weird.
Or their thoughts on tvs and computers, how weird they must think we are that we sit for hours in front of screens watching people do things.
4. My family got our dog from a breeder, and of course our dog never again saw his mom and dad. Do you think dogs think about that stuff? That they have relatives? Do you think they miss their moms and dads and siblings? Or think that the dogs they meet at the park or on the street could be their relatives?

i think your thinking to much j/k my dog def doesn't like when we all leave the house ...
1) I think they can tell night from day, my dog acts differently especially towards strangers when I'm walking him or noises in the yard at night
I dont think their brain works like ours and knows its a new day they just get into routines like we do
2) I think they know we're coming back or maybe not my dog is looking out the window a lot when we pull up it's either he thinks he heard us or he's waiting for us
3) They can't comprehend cars. He likes going in the car though. My dog does watch the Dog Whisperer
4) The inital night we brought Bailey home he cried and was upset but he calmed down the next night. My Mom breeds dogs and has an offspring of the 2 parents and he doesn't treat them any different they any other dog and vice-versa. I doubt they would know siblings
The ONLY thing better than a glass of beer is tea with Miss McGill
A protuberance of flesh above the waistband of a tight pair of trousers
Dog Whisperer is great! .......I do wonder if he is full of shit sometimes but he allways seems to get results!
You are very philosophical today!
1. Based on having dogs my entire life, I think they can tell night from day.
2. I tell my dogs "bye-bye, see you later" when I leave the house. They seem to understand that they will be alone for a while but I will return. Often, when I return home, they have their respective spots in the window just watching and waiting for some one to come home.
3. My female dog isn't crazy about going in my car, my male dog loves the car and going for a ride (I have Golden Retrievers). I don't think they think it is scary because if they did, they wouldn't try to get caught under the wheels of my car if they are outside and I pull into the driveway. Regarding the computer, one dog usually hops on the couch directly behind me and the other gets on the chair directly to my left (it is the ONLY furniture they are allowed on). I don't think they know what I am doing, they just want to be near me.
4. When we picked up our dogs from the breeder and brought them home, I felt bad for taking them from their mommy but assured them on the ride to my house that they were in good hands. As they are brother/sister, they have that bond and act like typical siblings by playing one minute and one trying to be Alpha Dog the next.
1) night and day? Yes, my dog knows the difference but doesn't think about "all the stuff I gotta do tomorrow." It's just an endless cycle.
2) depending on what we tell our dog, she has some idea of when we'll return. I work 24 hour shifts and if my wife is heading out and says (to the dog) "your dad will be home soon," the dog only mopes a little. If my wife says, "I'll see you tonight," the dog goes into major, theatrical mope mode.
3) my dog absolutely loves "going bye-bye in the car." She has a sixth sense for when I'm reaching for the keys. She has selective hearing - she might ignore commands, but can hear car keys or a ziplock opening from the other side of the house .
4) I think my dog knew both her mom and dad and slept with her siblings until she was 8 weeks old. But she left the dusty high desert of California and moved to a house with a pool and A/C and I think she never looked back!

1. yes, i definitely believe they can tell the difference between night and day. i do think to some degree they realize the passage of time...but definitely don't think/look at the world as we do, so doesn't much matter.
2. i think in time they realize you will come back, how your schedule works, that you do return, etc.....and they adjust well.
3. i think it all depends on the dog/temperment. both my dogs are a wee bit nervous in the car, but i've had other dogs that love it. computers, just a distraction from giving them attention. now the tv, my one dog LOVES to watch tv! barks incessantly at anything that moves...but particularly dogs and horses.
4. i have thought of that. :( however, if you provide a good and loving home for your dog, you then become their *family*....just like adopting a child, so i think it's all good.
Let's just breathe...
I am myself like you somehow
dogs know a lot.
