Anyone else miss out on a band, show, movie or tv show?

Isnt it funny how sometimes we miss out on stuff like that? Stuff that will haunt us the rest of our days. Concerts that we didn’t know about that happened in our neighborhood, or bands that we only found out about, years later. Or movies that came out years ago and you recently watch for the first time, or tv shows that were popular back in the day and now you finally see them. For instance, The Pixies and Modest Mouse were 2 concerts I missed out on in 2004 that were minutes away from my dorm room, but I didn’t attend. Death Cab played a few minutes from my current residence in 2005. In 1991 or 1992 Pearl Jam along with the Chili Peppers and I think Alice and Chains played at a venue 30 minutes from my house, and additionally a little band called Mookie Blaylock played within walking distance from my house in the early 90’s. Of course there is Nirvana too, playing 30 minutes from my house. I specifically remember saying to my mom “I want to go with my cousins to see Pearl jam and Nirvana” but she was worried it would be a bad situation for a kid I was 7 in 1991.

I didn’t get into Arrested Development until December, and I didn’t get into The Sopranos until 2006. Scrubs I didn’t discover until 2007. Lost I didn’t discover until 2007, same with The O.C.

The whole indie rock scene which everyone on this board knows I rave about constantly I didn’t get into until 2006.

All too many times. I regret missing out on so many opportunities in life as well.

  • I think the worst thing would be missing the concerts. Tv shows and movies are always there for later but if you miss a legendary concert...you will not soon forget that.

Had tix to see Nirvana at a small club here in Pgh back in '91 or '92. No one to go with...and they never made it back. That bums me out to this day. No confidence at that age to just go alone.

Ugh, I was supposed to see Pearl Jam in, I think it was Lollapalooza '92? The one where Lush opened. That was the only band I saw though, b/c then there was a torrential downpour and storm (at Jones Beach) and they cancelled the rest of the show and did not r/s!

And I missed their MSG show in 2003 (?) I think (the tour for Riot Act) b/c the person I was going with FORGOT the tickets. Needless to say I am no longer in touch with that person. Ugh!

I always wished I was alive in the 60's though. But considering the current state of the world and especially the music, I feel so blessed I grew up in the 80's and 90's :)

Wish I knew you then. I had an extra ticket. Ended up going by myself.

Missing PJ during their 06 tour was a big disappointment for me, but I just couldn't make it. I wanted to go to the 05 concert in Philly too, but I wasn't a huge fan back then so it wasn't a big deal at the time.

Also, I regret missing out on the Arcade Fire last year.

agree on missing concerts. Tv shows are able to be purchased. Concerts (even a bootleg) won't make up for not being there. For me that rings true of a Pete Townshend concert at the Fillmore in SF. Such a small venue, just couldn't make it due to traffic. I was on my way to purchase a ticket from a scalper when a trucks engine caught fire. Instant 3 hour delay on the 101! At least it didn't cost me any $$$.

  • I just missed Wednesday 13 down at the Gramercy Theatre in NYC. That sort of pissed me off, but shit happens.

Well, I'm halfway through the first season of Lost right now after about 4 days..

I also didn't catch Firefly until a few years after it unfortunately got canceled.

My friends stopped by my window when I was 16 and were like, "Dude, we're going to see Nirvana and you're coming with." "Nah, man I'm grounded. I'll catch 'em next time."
  • I had the chance of seeing either Soundgarden or Pearl Jam. I made the right choice by choosing PJ but still, if I'd had known Soundgarden were going to split up, I'd have chosen them instead.
