8 hour workday

Two years ago I started at a gas station where me and this other girl practically ran the whole station, the boss never showed up so we'd take care of things ourself. I came in at 4pm after I'd been at school since 8am, then worked until midnight. It was incredibly hard, but I loved it! I've "officially" (not in my mum&dads company) worked since I was 13 so I was used to the 8 hours shifts, though.

When I moved to the city I had to start all over in a new job in a grocery store and I hate it! I check my watch several times an hour, and when I'm done working 8 hours I just wanna get home to bed. It has never felt so boring to be at work! Hopefully it'll get better after I graduate from uni. So I can understand where you're coming from, and if you weren't used to work at all it's probably difficult to adjust. But i'm sure it'll get better. You'll probably never find a job where you're able to work less than 8 hour day anyway:p

I'm 31, I wait tables and my work days are anywhere from 4-14 hours a day. On my feet, moving the whole time.
I really screwed that up. I really Schruted it.

Anyone else think its ridiculously long? Just got my first job, and it seems like at times, especially near the 6 or 7 hour mark, it just drags on and on! time moves too slowly

but maybe for you longtime workers the 8 hr workday goes by fast,

for a first job....absolutely understandable that it would feel so long.

i'll even say that for me it sometimes feels long. i taught for 10 years and my workday was 8:30 AM - 3 PM. granted, lots of *work* on my own time...but the time i actually had to BE in school, 6.5 hours a day. so other jobs i've had that required 8 hours, totally felt about 1.5-2 hourds too long. you do get *used* to it though, absolutely.

nowadays, i am to WORK 40 hours a week, so including lunch - i only take a half hour, my choice, it's really an 8.5 hour day. add in my commute...and yea......tis LONG. only perk, non-stressed and ZERO work outside of my office hours. so it works for me. :)

and yes, as others have said.....8 hour day is pretty standard, many, many jobs require even MORE....so adjust, get used to it....life is a long and bumpy ride. ;)
    Stay with me...

Ridiculously long? Please. It wasn't long ago that people had to work in the fields from the time they got up until the time they went to bed. Eight hours is hardly "ridiculously long." So stop being such a little bitch, stop complaining, and get your work done.
