Yet another radiohead33 thread without his own contributions ;)
You should actually revisit a thread.

On topic, Revenge of the Ninja and Pray for Death, both starring Sho Kosugi.

The Last Dragon! I believe it was Ernie Ray Junior's first film although he wasn't the star. You must remember the Shogun of Harlem!

When I was a kid I loved The Big Brawl with Jackie Chan. But I saw it again recently and I have to say it wasn't as cool as I remember. Still pretty funny though.

I'd have to say my all time favorites are Fists of Fury and Enter the Dragon. Bruce ruled!

Avoiding others that have been mentioned.....how about.....

HOUSE OF FLYING DAGGERS and it's movie trailer.

China's powerful Tang Dynasty is falling into disarray in the year 859 A.D., thanks mainly to a band of thieves who steal from the rich and give to the poor.

Ordered to bring the rogue band of Robin Hoods to justice, two police detectives hatch a scheme to trick a beautiful dancer into leading them to the thieves' hideout deep in the forest. But when one of the cops falls in love with his pretty suspect, their star-crossed romance may have far reaching complications.

Directed by acclaimed Chinese filmmaker Zhang Yimou (Hero).

This would've been my choice but it was already mentioned. Can you believe it's been 35 years last month since that movie was released.

I sort of remember when that movie came out and it was an instant hit. Here's one of my favorite lines from the movie....

Shaolin Abbot: *The enemy has only images and illusions behind which he hides his true motives. Destroy the image and you will break the enemy*.

This came about near the end of the movie in the fight sequence in the room of mirrors.

  • I always liked the version of Fist of Fury with the atrocious voice dubbing.
  • Anyone ever see The Clones of Bruce Lee? That one was hilarious!

  • Anything Jackie Chan made outside of America is great. The stunts are incredible. Recently, I think Tony Jaa has done some impressive stunt work with his movies. He can't act, and the stories are lame, but the fights are a blast. I picked up Flash Point with Donnie Yen a few days ago, and there is a kick ass end fistfight in it. Also has some interesting moralistic themes, which was a surprise.

I'm interested to see what others would recommend. I occasionally go to a shady import DVD shop in Chinatown, and would like some suggestions.

RIKI OH: THE STORY OF RIKI!!!

    That's the greatest!

And I think I saw someone say "Revenge of the Ninja"-- is that the one with the Fire Ninja, Earth Ninja, Water Ninja, and Wind Ninja? That one is also hillarious, and I don't even know that it tries to be.

No, that is not the one with the four element ninjas. I have no idea what that one is. Maybe it is a movie of the same name, but not the one I linked to.

"My nipples look like milk duds!!"

    winner.
  • Shaolin Wheel of Life

    - not a movie with script or even a documentary, but a film of a performance by shaolin monks where they tell stories through various demonstrations and choreographed routines. the "stunts" are real and it's absolutley amazing to watch what the human body can do when it's been conditioned with the mind to withstand pain and to perform the seemingly impossible.

    * see them live if you can! :)
