So, the other night I'm watching "It's Me Or The Dog" on Animal Planet. It's like the UK version of the Dog Whisperer.

They were in the background training the dogs when a camera view of the floral arrangements revealed OPIUM poppies growing in the backyard.

I said to myself, "Couldn't be...."

Yet, according to wiki, it's actually legal to grow opium poppies in the UK, just not for medicinal purposes.

So, does just about everyone in the UK do what they can to take advantage of that loophole?

  • I'm not sure most people would have a clue what to do with a poppy to extract the opium, to be honest. But yeah you do see them growing here and there, sometimes on the sides of roads and stuff.

yes all 60million of us are growing them in greenhouses so we can get fucked out of skulls.
oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.

I have a friend who does. He planted a shitload of poppies in his garden and he extracts opium from them. He told his parents that it was because he wanted to get into gardening and apparently they bought it :o Stupid thing is, if he'd just told them, they'd probably just be glad he wasn't on smack any more.

  • I have a field of poppies in the gardens of my luxurious manor house but they stand as a war memorial.

  • Poppies, poppies everywhere!

    I love poppies :D

I don't extract opium, but I suppose it's possible... if you know how.

They make pretty flowers too :p
Why not be mediocre and be the best at it that you can be?

Dried poppies, which are legal in the US, still have a relatively high morphine content. I would think that with live poppies, one can still derive quite a bit of morphine from just straight extract right out of the pod without any chemical manipulation. I'm not sure about that, however.
