A former roommate of mine left behind a whole bunch of dried foods like cereal, granola bars, popcorn...etc. Pretty much all of it expired several months ago. I seem to be OK so far.

they'll have weevils in them... i once opened up a bag of expired flour and saw weevils running around.

they'll be nutritious though i suppose... but I wonder if they can exist inside of you and eat you from the inside out? imagining being slowly killed by a tribe of weevils and all because you wanted to eat expired popcorn... yuk!!.

    oh.... enjoy :)
oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.

Weevils wobble but they don't fall down.

Is it me or are all of you exceptionally funny this morning??

    lol
Glad you are feeling ok. The amount of preservatives in processed food allows them to be edible for far longer than the date on the box.

And there is nothing grosser than finding bugs in the flour.
Cause I'm broken when I'm lonesome
And I don't feel right when you're gone away
  • pick whichever is the lesser of two weevils

(bastardized line from the 'master and commander' movie....this has to be my only opportunity to use it, so i did :p)

    what is a weevil?
  • Dry goods are usually fine. The expiration dates on such items are more for the sake of quality than safety.

If you have questions about particular items, you can always check product web sites, or call the hotline listed on the package and just ask a question. It only takes a minute, and they're usually very helpful.

I'm like the food poisoning police for my family, so I've familiarized with these hotlines and web site FAQ's very well. :D
