Tube tvs are the best quality available at the mo. It's true. But they're limited in how big the screens can be. That's why lcd/plasma/etc are taking over, they can be made to bigger sizes.
Essentially, tubes rule!
now here is someone who gets it..........unless you're being sarcastic............
What's up with all this color TV shit, I want my black and white TV's....and what is up with this remote thingy...I want to get up and turn the knob...WTF???
hehehehe
if more people got up and turned the knob they wouldn't be so many fat people in the U.S.

I wouldn't even be looking for a tv if i wasn't sure that my current one was just one step away from being dead..........
sorry but i don't need the latest marketing ploy...........
it's not a "marketing ploy" that's just what they're selling now because that's what most people want to buy now. it's like complaining that you can't find a decent VCR anywhere.

but it is..........and to make sure you don't make the wrong choice they take away your other options..........
I may be alone in this thought but I don't need or really want a flat screen HDTV..........the picture on a Tube tv is just fine for me.........and for no more tv than i watch it's perfect...........
i've got one that was made in 1985 (i bought it when i got a divorce) and it still works. we don't have a flat screen tv yet, my husband is waiting for the price to come down more than it already has. in our living room, we have a tv we bought from a cheap dept store 10 plus years ago. it's a good thing we don't have a huge tv b/c we had to crowd more stuff in our living room when my mom moved in with us.

the one i have now is like 10+ years old I got as a christmas present from my parents so it didn't cost me anything and served me well...............It 's everytime i turn it on I keep praying it's the time that it goes dead on me..........but it does take minute for the picture to start to get bright..........

I'm with you....sorry, but TV ain't that interesting. I have a TV but it's not on all that often except for football season. Have I seen games on a 62" HD screen? yup and yes, the quality is excellent. But not worth the money. I'd rather spend that kind of money on something I'd get more use from - a new saddle.
believe it or not, we don't "need" anything. that is only the spoiled brat in us trying to fill some temporary solution to an emptyness that does not exist.

I've got one that's about 20 years old (actually I guess older...crap, I am old!). still works fine, but it was too small for my living room so I got a new one. I put the old one in my bedroom, which is weird for me because I've never had a TV in my bedroom in my life.
Well I caved in..........I've been all over hell and back.......couldn't find any.......so those bastards got me sucked in too..........Two days of searching.....

what difference does it make? what exactly have you been "sucked in" to? it's just a TV, just a different shape.
if you're going to say you got sucked into paying more, that's mute point- the only reason tube TVs are cheaper is because of the demand for lcds. so if there weren't any lcds, tube TVs would be the same price they are.
You know, I actually hate HD and Plasma...my friend has a big screen plasma and the movies look like they're homemade movies. I like my movies to look like fantasy, you know what I mean.
I still use my old Goldstar analog TV my mom got me nearly 15 years ago, and it still works great.
So I'm with the OP on this one, bad bad idea to just pull the plug on analog TV's just like that. They should have left an option for us old school TV lovers.

I agree, I really don't like the new plasmas or anything, I've been fiddling around with mine for the longest time, and the color/sharpness is still all kinds of fucked up.

that's what everyone's always told me too.
but I don't care about picture quality, I care about being able to lift the thing when I move .

it iz ah buot TV...yes/no???
yeah but as I added above, they wouldn't be cheap if a new technology hadn't taken over.
