Chiropractors

I have recurring lower back issues and this is the second time my back has "gone out" in the past year or so. I've seen normal doctors but nothing seems to permanently help. A few people have sworn by chiropractors eliminating their back pain but I'm skeptical and nervous about seeing one.

Anyone use one before?

I went recently to an osteopath for some lower back issues. I was nervous, but he fixed me right up! Personally, I would try out a DO before a chiropractor. You just have to be sure they do manipulations. Good luck!

go to a PT or someone who can address the underlying reason you are going out of line. Stretch and strengthen the right muscles and you will most likely never need to see a chiropractor

unfortunately, i have to agree with that.
i have had some negative experiences with chiropractors ... the last one we went to (my son's friend's father)
overbilled the ins company to the point that it was practically criminal.

i'm sure there are good ones that can help with certain physical issues but
i would actually consider accupuncture or another route before chiropractic care.

you have to find a good one....which is difficult....i had a great one that deep tissue therapy in addition to adjustments

nic, if you haven't, go to a back specialist first and have xrays taken to see if there is anything wrong....if not, the stretching and strengthening idea is the way to go at first....also i've heard yoga is good for the back too :)

it really depends on what the problem is. if its muscle, maybe they can help. But i have problems with my L4 and L5 discs, and a chiropractor only seemed to fuck it up worse. That soft tissue between your vertebrae are sensitive, and I would get a 'real' doctor to take a look first.

thanks for the input everyone. i do have an appointment with an orthopedic doctor but he can't see me for another week and a half...and right now i can hardly move, so didn't want to wait that long. i may just stick to the meds, etc., and wait for the real doctor. i was already leary of chiro's and you guys are confirming my fears!

well in the meantime, ice for 10 minutes, 10 minutes off, 10 on...every hour or so.....although for my back heat works much better
