So many New Orleans stories share a similar theme.

I went two full weeks after Fat Tuesday a few years back. As I walked onto Bourbon Street, like clockwork, I look down the street one way and a drunk, well proportioned blonde "shows her tits" to the screams of a pack of drunk college guys, and I look the other way and a girl is yacking up her nights drinks into the gutter. It doesn't even have to be Mardi Gras for the legendary revelry folks.

  • I went down to Mardi Gras in 2004. A group of us rented an RV and drove from Chicago to New Orleans. The most distinct memories I have are of trash and foul stench. The music was great, the crowds weren't as bad as I had anticipated, the alcohol was plentiful... but the trash and foul smell is what I would always mention first.

Oh, and one of our crew got arrested for chucking a full drink through an open second story apartment window on Bourbon Street. Yes, and I agree with what you all are thinking... what a waste of a good drink. ;)

it's true. me too. the smell is distinct. i went twice for mardi gras and i left my sneakers in new orleans both times. no way i was putting those back in my suitcase after sludging around in an inch of bodily fluids for a few days. yick. good time, though! :D

My god, I bet people think New Orleans is a rotting cesspool. Yes Bourbon street can smell bad with the tremendous amount of people, but the rest of the city smells fine. Try catching a parade on the Uptown route.

Mardi Gras was one of the most interesting weekends of my life. I'm just glad I survived it ... lol.

Can't believe it's been 10 years since my trip down there. It was the most ghetto trip ever. My friends and I decided to drive down 3 am on the Thursday before Fat Tuesday. We had no place to stay and lived out of my station wagon for the weekend.

    Ah college.

My friends and I snuck into the Tulane dorms to shower.

But yeah, the stench on Bourbon Street was horrible by the end. You were walking on 18-24 inches of garbage.

Such a great time though. That is till my car caught fire on the way home after we bribed a security guard to let us into Graceland at 6 am, but that's a story for another day.
