I'm not sure if I'm remembering this right, but wasn't his situation the reason behind that law which protects child actors from greedy parents?

He was born in 1968. Different Strokes aired from 1978-1986.
In 1989, Coleman sued his parents and former manager over misappropriation of his $8.3 million trust fund.[2] He won a $1,280,000 ruling on February 23, 1993.[3] Coleman later filed for bankruptcy in 1999; he attributed his financial problems to mismanagement of his trust.[4]

    yeah, real ashy.

    oh wait, you said happy.
  • Sucks when nobody wants you and that's how you need to survive.

Different strokes came out on TV when I was a kid, and Arnold was just a few years older then me at the time. Yeah, he was just a kid, and he got screwed over pretty badly. I still remember the first episode when they first got adopted. Look at dana Plato (dead).,. Todd Bridges..huge substance abuse problems as well.

    great show...

When you're on top everyone loves you...when you're not...nobody knows your name....everyone want's to ride the wave and will sell out their own mother to ride it, so people get trampled on, lost and forgotten. It's hard to deal with psychologically and why so many develop substance abuse problems to escape reality.

    ...the nature of the biz.

    things are hard.
    people have to deal.
so...he wasn't able to deal with mass amounts of money and fame.
boo hoo. the system spit him out.
if he had been responsible before the system spit him out...
he wouldn't be where he is today.

I can;t speak to the every movie star on drugs, but unfortunately Arnold's family stole from him. The people he trusted the most screwed him over badly.

That's gotta suck and affect you for life.

I'll let wisdom and experience on the human condition provide my reality.

Run that rollercoaster of an experience sometime and get back to me on choices and how perfect the armchair observations of choice are.

i'll run the rollercoaster as long as you play the sympathy card.
could he have made better choices? yes.
could he have learned from others before him? yes.
did he let the 'good life' get the best of him? yes.

would you feel bad for britney spears or lindsay lohan if they lost everything? my guess is no. i also guess you'd feel that way b/c they were irresponsible.

for what it's worth, i think GC was irresponsible. he had a future set for him and he chose to gamble with it. for that, i don't sympothize.

Also, the guy is a midget or something. That's gotta be hard enough as it is. And you thought it was tough having a small penis. Imagine if it was your whole body that was dwarfed. J/K. I'm sure you have a gigantic penis.

Tell me what, you get your own sitcom and become a child movie star at 10, then get screwed over mercilessly by your parents, then get older and lose your cute factor so nobody wants you anymore, then become washed up career wise before you're 20, and get back to me on how perfect and awesome you would be.

    You haven't any idea.

and you know exactly what its like?
im sorry he is an adult and he did win some serious money in that lawsuit. its his fault he wasted that money. he could have went to college and became a lawyer or banker or anything. heck i know people that did crack when they were younger and now work lousy factory jobs but they can make a living still and were never given $1.2 million. they restarted their life with nothing. if he wants pity he will get it. if he wants to be something more than a washup he might have to do something with his life other than the old 'woe is me' stunt.
