I was just notified Monday that my position has been eliminated by my employer. The fuckers even interrupted my lunch to have an HR person in another state tell me this by phone and then walked me out of the building.

There were 4 daylight positions, 2 of which were eliminated. Now instead of having 2 people at all times they just have 1 person at a time. The bit I haven't received an explanation about from them is why my job was cut when I had more seniority (both with the company and within the department) than the 2 people they kept.

I knew changes were coming but wasn't expecting this. The department was starting a new schedule on Monday which was changed to eliminate the 4 hours of overtime everyone would get each pay period. When the supervisor presented the schedule she created I saw that there was still overtime for some people. I fixed this by rearranging some of the schedule (with no credit) and was then cut out of it.

On the bright side, I was starting to hate my job anyway. I also get about 3 weeks of pay as if I'm working without actually having to work followed by about 2 months of severance pay. I'll also get the 3 weeks of vacation I had saved paid out so I'll get a total of 15 weeks of pay without working.

My guess, a large one with record profits.

Bummer dude. I talked to people I used to work with when the axe was coming down. They would milk them for a whole day's work before handing them their pink slip at the end of the day. I was glad to get out of there before the ship went down.

Good luck on the job hunt

wow, that sucks. senority usually equals more pay, perhaps this is why they chose you? good luck getting a new job!

I'll be in the neighborhood later on, and I was wondering if maybe you wanted to get some frozen yogurt, or perhaps a whole meal of food, if that would be agreeable. Damnit.

Yeah, I figure the difference in wages might be the reason they cut me. I never got huge raises but I guess they added up a little. I just thought seniority usually determined who gets laid off so people with less time would get cut first.

Righteousbabe is at least half right. It is a large corporation, but I worked at a small office for them (around 100 people) which did not make much money for the company. I'm not sure about the overall profits, but I believe the company stock did go up until it was bought by an investment firm.

when people quit my place of work, they take them to their locker and walk them off the property and the security codes are changed. even when they give their two weeks this is done. they dont want sales people to have to weeks to steal all their clients away from them.

sorry to hear about your job, but it seems like you are optimistic....good luck!

That's interesting. I haven't ever worked in a place like that so it sounded so strange to me!

Yeah, stuff like that is usually standard procedure when people leave a job, especially when someone is fired. Employees at my former job used access cards to enter the building. The company just make people return them or turned off their card so they don't have to change numbers all the time.

In my case I wasn't even allowed to get my things from my desk myself. A supervisor (not mine) boxed up my stuff while they had me in a conference room to tell me my job was cut. They just gave it to me as I left the room.

they do that in IT firms also, if they think the employee will take classified/secure info with them from the computer

and also, I believe, they escort someone out for security reasons, they may be afraid of someone's reaction to that

that is totally bogus how they did that to you like that
but fortunately at least you will get all that back pay and severance pay

Hang in there, I hope you find a job you enjoy!

This just seems wrong to me. :( To treat you like you are less than a human being with feelings!! It's like saying "We're done with you. Get out and take your junk with you." That's so lousy!

Thats standard practice at my place when people are let go.

That's hilarious! I'll be using that one, if the situation arises.
