I own a 54 chevy bel air and not too many PJ fans are into that kind of classics.

Just wondering if anyone else here has a classic out there.

  • my wifes dad used to be really into them. he use to own a restaraunt in west texas that had a car museum attatched to it. lots of really cool and old stuff. but restaraunt caught fire and almost all of them were destroyed. luckily my wife still had her '39 desoto and the house. he never really got into them again after that. i tell you tho, driving around in a 39 desoto is fun. you get good looks. and if you take it to church, every old person will come and tell you what was the first car their family ever had.

edit: btw you're from juarez? i grew up in el paso. my wife is from a town outside elpaso called van horn.

oh man that is one thing about owning a classic. the stories that come with it form other people. Mine is in the process of getting restored. My dad bought it when I was a kid and later when I got to drive it around I recall all those stories from people who either had one and it brough back good memories for them or people who used to say their parents owned one and their good memories. definetly a nice experiense you get from having one.

I lived in El Paso for a while when I was a kid. but only for about a year then moved to Dallas where I grew up.

I like classic cars but I can't afford one of my own....plus I don't know how to do any of the work myself.

My father-in-law owns a old Chevelle (which is in mint condition)...he wins a lot of awards at car shows. As well as an old Impala SS....which he's working on right now.

I'm tempted to buy an old GTO that needs some work, and he can teach me as we rebuild it together....but I'm still on the fence about it.

I'm not so much, but a good friend of mine works for Barrett Jackson Classic Cars. Their auctions are incredible!! If you've never been, I highly recommend it. You'll also probably run into a bunch of celebs. The one last month in Scottsdale was packed for of celebs, sports players, etc...the kind of type that have a ton of money to spend.
    Cool cars!

I'm a huge car freak, though I don't own a classic right now. I had a 1980 Triumph TR7 that I sold a couple years ago. Bought it on a whim and spent the better part of two years trying to get it fixed up. Ended up selling it on ebay to some dude from Missouri who paid me $45 more than what I paid for it... hell of an ROI on that. :D

My dad has a '66 Mustang right now (289 auto, factory a/c, etc.), so I can get my old car fix with that. We cruise around in that from time to time during the summer, which is cool.

always wanted a 65 shelby fastback since as far back as I can remember.

A 71 Boss was another car that I worshipped.

When I was a kid, my dad bought a '69 camaro coupe, dropped a 350 crate engine into it, and basically restored it to look like an SS. He was actually winning recognition awards at local car shows even though it was really a coupe.

No....but I'm gonna buy my brother's 1966 Black Baraccuda...It's rotting in his yard - such a shame...He wants to sell it for parts...It's like, one of only two in our area...or, a wide vast area...something like that...I don't know, that's what my brother said and he...he's not a reliable historian...

my dad is a huge car buff. his friends and him buy old cars and rebuild them for fun...my dad rebuilds engines and his friends do the body work.

i grew up going to car shows. my dad's friend had a lincoln coupe...can't remember the year, from the 40s i believe...that he traded to my dad. it was a rare car when i was a kid...only 3-4 left in the world...now it's the only one know in existence. my dad took the car to a car show once and the car was featured on espn2...weird i know. but he was offered $200k for the car by some race car driver. he turned it down  i think i was more upset that he never told me his car was on tv!!

sad. here is a sad story. I found a 1960 Impala convertable in an old mans front yard. For years I asked him if he wanted to sell. Every time either no or he gave me a ridiculous price. 12 thousand , 10 thousand etc. Car was worth in its condition around 2 thousand or 3.

So the car sat there for over 10 years. One day i drive by and it´s gone. So I stop by and his daughter tells me old man had passed away and car was sent to junkyard for 100 dollars. PISSED ME OFF.

now the upside. couple of years later I am in Michigan and see another vert. But this time a 1963 Impala. I pull up and real nice old man starts telling me how he wanted to rebuild but never got around to it. By the end of a nice long talk he decides to let me have it for 400 bucks. It is back home in dallas right now waiting for me to get started in it. Bought new floors for it last year and engine was rebuilt.

any idea if it is a convertable. I saw a real nice lincoln back in california once and guy said there was only about 3 or 4. maybe it was same model. according to him factory only produced around 1100 to begin with but very few were stil around. he told how he had to frabicate the driver side door from scratch when he started to rebuild it.
