I've never been so embarrassed to be a baseball fan as tonight. They should have delayed this game a long time ago. Lets decide the most important game of the season in a fucking pouring rain. Maybe if the greedy idiots who run baseball weren't such clowns we wouldn't be having these issues. Weekend World Series games should start during the day and the season needs to be shortened back to 154 so were not playing in almost November. Don't even get me started on the completely inept umpires. Thanks Bud Selig for turning the game I love into a joke.

My dad just called me from the game. I guess they aren't telling the fans anything. He asked me if I was watching the game, and if I could give him any info..

Sucks.. if they can't play till wednesday to finish the game, he'll miss out.. he has to fly to CA for work on wednesday.. :(

All I can say is that everyone there looks miserable. I can't imagine being in a downpour like that unless it's at Verona to see PJ! :)

Would they make a World Series game shortened due to rain if it's over 6 innings long?

That would be a terrible way to decide the series.

All of this would be moot if the NL could just win an all star game :p

Conveniently, they waited until it was tied, so that didn't happen.

    Yeah, it doesn't look good.

I am kinda glad they don't have the 5 inning rule like they do in the reg. season. Can you imagine the riots that would ensue if a team was up 8-2 in the 3rd, got canceled and rescheduled? Hahahaha!

As a diehard baseball fan (Cubs fan) I hope the Rays make a series of this. I hope it goes to game 7! I'm bitter about my Cubs, but I do want to see a good series. At the end, I'm just slightly pulling for the Phils.

they do have the 4 1/2 inning rule... however since it was past that Selig decided that the series would not be decided on an incomplete game.. yet they failed to call the game before the top of the 6th when conditions were no worse than in the bottom of the inning... if it was the 3rd, they would have called the game and restarted it as a new game.

Yep. I wouldn't have wanted this to end on a called game, as much as I would go bonkers if the Phils brought home a championship. But I do think the timing of the call was very curious given how bad the rain/field had been from top of the 5th on.
And like any cursed city sports fan, I'm now really anxious that this will come back to bite us.

I guess my point was, if they called it early and had to replay it (with one team up), it would piss off a lot of people. If they let it go like they did last night, it too would piss off a lot of people.

Either way, the umps and MLB are in a lose-lose situation.

not sure how a day game would avoid a possible rain delay. Anyways, it'll never happen as prime time TV generates incredible revenue for networks.

Day games are a totally seperate issue. Game 4 was the lowest rated World Series game ever! Start the games earlier so people can actually stay awake for the ending. People outside of Philadelphia and Tampa aren't going to stay awake until 1:00AM to watch this series. Baseball needs to evolve past the greed that's been driving them. The weather in the Northeast almost always starts to get worse around this time of year. Shorten the season to 154 and start playing double headers on Sundays. The season could start in mid April and end in early October. It's getting to the point where every year we have weather issues in the Series.
