I would say I only turn it up 25% of the time. Mainly because I've already got my music up loud and louder would make me (even more) deaf.

for those that turn it up...does it make you feel good to listen to a song that responds to Neil Young's hope that those from Alabama stop being racist with a song (Sweet Home Alabama) that defends racism?

Considering that the song doesn't defend racism, yeah it makes me feel good listening to it. The song was a tongue-in-cheek jab at Young because Ronnie Van Zant felt that Young was blindly accusing every white person in Alabama of being racist, which isn't true.

Yes, in fact, after having listened to it (and also after turning up the volume) I have a orgasm when I go to sleep. That's how good it makes me feel.

    But seriously, read markymark's post.

this is what i have always believed as well. i am not a huge skynard fan by any means..i like this song...and free bird...and tuesdays gone...
but i do kinda like this song. maybe cause i have some good memories associated with it. like driving to spring break w- my older brother and his friends.

anyway...interesting side note....i think it was Ronnie Van Zant...or whoever the lead singer was when the plane crashed and a lot of guys in the band died...well anyway...he was buried in a Neil Young T shirt....(i always thought that was cool)

Yeah, I hate that people see Skynyrd as the stereotypical Southern racist, redneck band because their songs and lyrics went against that kind of thinking.

Van Zant and Young were actually friends and respected each other very much. Van Zant would wear Neil Young shirts on stage to fuck with the people who took the song literally and didn't understand it's irony. Hell, Young even tagged Sweet Home Alabama at the end of Southern Man at one of his shows right after the plane crashed as a sign of respect towards Skynyrd.
