Doug Peacock said of this book it "may be the most important wildlife publication event of the year [2003]"  So despite the lapse of time, of course I have to read it.  Sadly, it start out with a chapter describing how buffalo that cross the line out of Yellowstone are legally shot and butchered.  Ugh.  Rough start, but I will stick it out because it is also said to be, "An affectionate tribute to the animals in the setting in which American are likely to encounter them."  Ruth Rudner, A Chorus of Buffalo; A Personal Portrait of an American Icon:

Has anyone read The Three Body Problem by Chinese author Cixin Liu...Sounds like some good Sci Fi.  I have requested it as a bday gift so hoping to have a copy next week.  Interested in what other readers think, obviously without giving away spoilers.

I picked up the trilogy boxed set last year, but haven't gotten around to reading any of it yet.

Currently reading "Wanderers" by Chuck Wendig on my Kindle and "Head On" by John Scalzi in paperback. Interspersing with Nick Offerman's "Where the Deer and Antelope Play", too.

    Yes, probably my favorite book!
I've been working my way through all his books, need to grab a few more today.

I use Betterworldbooks.com if anyone is interested. They're mostly used, cheap, they donate books to ppl that need em, and strive to be carbon neutral. Usually you get old library books, kinda fun to see where they come from.
Wouldn't it be funny if the world ended in 2010, with lots of fire?

  • Brave New World by Aldous Huxley. I've been intending to read it forever since it was so influential on Orwell's 1984. Finally got around to it.

I just discovered what an interesting man James Baldwin was, wondering what might be a good entry point into his works? I’m interested to explore both his essays and his stories. Thanks in advance.

Going to Meet the Man was my first exposure some 30 years ago and it left a mark.

Thank you both, I expect I’ll see what’s available at the library in the coming days, very much appreciated the feedback.

Finished The Three Body Problem Trilogy by CIXIN LIU.  That was entertaining and pretty great hard sci fi.  I would recommend it to anyone.

Just started Hyperion by Dan Simmons.  So far I like it.  It is obvious that it was written in a different time (1989)  Might as well have been written in a different world.  More SCIFI/Fantasy than hard sci fi, but still enjoyable.
