so im thinking about getting one of these. being a college student i get done with my work early and have a lot of downtime and now that its summer i have even more on days i do not work. i do have a life but there are times where boredom really hits. im leaning towards the xbox 360 since sony cant keep up with things these days.

ay thoughts?
there'll be time for laughin'
there's no time to cry
soon i will be leavin'
look me in the eye
no matter what's in front of me
it's your face that i'll see

Ive played both, and I enjoy the Xbox the most. But the Xbox does mess up a little bit when it gets too hot. You have to put a fan on it sometimes. And there have been hardware problems, which is no problem while on warranty. But yea, it does freeze and slow down when it gets too hot.

I went for the PS3, love it.
The best thing to do is find out which console has the most titles you want to play, that are out now and that are coming out in the near future, then it simplifies the elimination process.

I would go with xbox because they have more great games out by far at the min and it looks like they will have a lot more in the next year too. I know people who have both and they play on their xbox a lot more then their ps3.

I'll agree with Mole and Reeferchief's statements. Check the game libraries for both and go from there.
I have both and my PS3 is used mostly for vids and movies. (I DO have games for it, they just don't get played even remotely close to the game time put in on the 360).
Also the amount of friends you have with either system is a heavy influence, too.

On a semi-related note, PS3-exclusive Haze was just rated a 4.5/10 by IGN. I was hyped for that till I tried the demo...

I have a PS3 and would recommend it.

Both are good systems, but it just comes down to preference.

Take a look at the games on each system. If one has more you really want to play then get that. Also, see what all of your friends have because online play is (IMO) a pretty important feature.
Most of my friends have PS3s and playing them online is a lot of fun.

Xbox 360's strength in my opinion (aside from the games specific to the system) is xBox live. Ps3 is currently one of the cheapest blue ray players you can get, which is a definitely plus.

I gotta give the advantage to xBox 360, but you can't go wrong with either.

I love my Xbox 360 (love the concept of achievements, the XBOX Live experience, the fact that I can use it as a Media Center Extender, etc).

However, I have a 1080p tv now, and wish I had the Playstation 3's Blu Ray capabilities.

I love 360 because of the online play. IMO no other system comes close in this aspect. And since I have no friends that live in the area (we all just left college) Xbox makes it easy for me to not only play single player haha.

Save you money and buy a wii. More fun to play with friends at school anyways.

XBOX is coming out with a Bluray player in the near future. Not sure of its features or functionality but that's the word.

PS3 is apparently getting achievements soon, the online is pretty close to Xbox Live (not AS good, but close...and it's free) and PS3 can be used as a media center too.
Heck, with my PSP I can access all media on my computer at home via Remote Play with my PS3 from anywhere in the world. It also works as a security camera of sorts. I can turn on my PS Eye remotely and see what's going on at home. Mostly my cat sleeping on the couch! LOL :D

I have had all 3 major systems. I loved the 360 but the thing craps out too much. Wii is fun but only in small doses with friends. I didn't play the Wii at all from January to March so I figured I didn't really need it. I ended up selling my 360 and Wii on ebay and got the 40GB PS3. I have no complaints at all. I'm a big sports gamer and MLB 08 The Show is the best baseball game ever. The fact that it comes with a top of the line Bluray player is a huge bonus especially since you can download firmware updates so it won't become obsolete. If the 360 was made of higher quality materials I wouldn't have switched (yet anyway) but I'm kinda glad I did. That being said, check out the titles available for both systems and see which you think you'll play more of. Both are good so you can't really go wrong. For the money and what you get I think that the PS3 is a better deal but it's still lagging behind in the online gaming world especially with lack of achievements.
I wish I was as fortunate, as fortunate as me.

That is pretty much the norm. I'm on my second 360 in 21 months, and 4th PS3 in 13 months.
The biggest problem with the PS3 online is no in-game interface, which should be fixed soon, but delay has been the name of the game for Sony's black George Foreman grill...

What was the issue with the PS3 that you keep swapping them out? I know several people with PS3s and none have had problems, yet. Almost everybody I know with a 360 is on their 2nd or 3rd by now.

First two had faulty fans, and they were from the same batch (judging by the serial numbers).
The third wasn't faulty at all as far as I can tell, but still counts as an exchange. The shitty sixaxis controllers are to blame for that exchange (very frequent signal drops, support blamed faulty attenna, but all 4 sixaxis I've ever had the "pleasure" of synching to my system drop signals all the time. DS3 = MUCH better, in feel and functionality). This is another con of the PS3 - the analog sticks on Sony controllers blow.
Me and my buddy's systems have constant signal drops with Sixaxis controllers (60g). My brother's 20G system has never had a problem of any kind.

First 360 RROD'd, as you'd expect. If this one doesn't RROD before year 3 on the warranty I'd strongly consider 'forcing' it ;)

    ouch...

although i really don't take their or other sites reviews that serious, that's a brutal score. honestly, i don't care that it has 'an aweful story'...that's the last reason i play video games. at the end of the day, i'm ready to unwind and shoot some crap. the fact that the graphics and gameplay scored so poorly, now that's something...

at least Killzone 2 is coming.

dude I went through this exact debate last year, I ended up getting teh PS3 for a few reasons but a few things I didn't know, no batteries for the controllers save cash there and I know you can buy the xbox adapter blah blah to charge but that's still one more thing to buy, free online which is a bonus even if I tried hooking it up but didn't know how cause I'm a tard. plus the controllers are way awesomer and it looks about a thousand times cooler

No, but be the table is easy to read and allows an easy way to compare the features between the three consoles.

Yeah review sites aren't the most reliable but a 4.5/10 goes beyond bias ;)

I'm and xbox guy. I'm still on the original 360 that I got a few years ago. Hasn't crapped out on me yet, although it's running harder and harder and freezing more often. So I'm due to send it back soon :o

I prefer the 360 controller and that makes a big difference. The analog sticks are much better and it feels solid in your hand.

    Rygar, we gonna game tonight?

I'll be off and on over the evening, send me an invite and I'll join.

The analog sticks are the difference maker in the controllers. 360's are much better.

I have (sad note: I'm over 30) both a 360, PS3, and Wii. That said, each has a specific purpose.

    360: Games and online play
    PS3: Movies
    Wii: Fun

If you want to play online alot, then the 360 is a no brainer. You have to pay $60 a year, but you get what you pay for.

If you don't plan on playing online, then the PS3 has exceptional value because it is also a Blu-ray player.

The Wii is pretty fun. I actually spend a lot of time playing the retro games from the virtual console. Tons of great games. Wii sports is great fun. It's also more simplistic. If only they could make a great golf game . . .

I have both and if the PS3 didn't have bluray, I would probably have the xbox on the main TV.

(so far I like playing games on 360 better, although I haven't played the same game on each system to directly compare)

The only game I've played on both systems is Assassin's Creed (love that game, btw) and they were near identical.
Since I come across as a PS3 hater, I'll deflect a little and recommend Uncharted (great) and next month Metal Gear is released, yum!

Well i play halo 3 competitively and id firstly being with xbox live just being an incredible thing, who bothers playing offline.

The games are all there, i really cant think of what the playstation has, GTA, oh thats on xbox 360, they have metal gear solid and gran turismo but thats about it, project gotham racing is just as good at GT. I also think Final Fantasy is comming to xbox as well

And the playstation know its got to compete so they put all these fancy new features in like blue ray which is just totally uncessary.

Xbox 360 is also waaay cheaper now.

    - Blu Ray is pretty good.
    - Project Gotham racing isn't anywhere near as good as GT. Not even remotely close, and it's an arcade game, not a racing sim. Forza 2 is a better comparison but it's doubtful any game will ever rival Gran Turismo. And, speaking as a 360 fan, Project Gotham Racing just plain sucks.
    - Final Fantasy (the new one) is not coming to the 360, either.

Uncharted: Drake's Fortune is my current PS3 favorite. Warhawk is fun at times too.

I was a huge fan of Forza, but Forza 2 felt like Forza 1.5 to me. I've actually had a lot of fun on PGR4 (though the cycles suck).
