The Senate accord -- reached after days of bickering and passed by 91-6 -- keeps the House-passed rebate check amounts of $300 to $600 for people who have an income between $3,000 and $75,000, plus $300 per child.

Couples earning up to $150,000 would get $1,200.

But the plan also gives checks to more than 20 million Social Security beneficiaries and 250,000 handicapped veterans and their widows.

Do we need to do anything to receive this, or is it automatic? And wtf is up with people earning > $150,00 getting 2x as much??? :(

You have it backwards....couples get twice as much as individuals, but if their income exceeds $150,000, they don't get the rebate. Same for individuals who earn over $75,000.

That $75K cap is waaaaaaaaay too low. If anything, they should give more back to those above $75K, since they are paying the most taxes.

So who gets 300 and who gets 600? Or is it not a solid value? Like someone earning 74,999 would get 600, someone who earned 50,000 would get 450, and so on..?

I'm confused! I work basically under the table (family business), but I'm on the books for about $6000 / year. So I'm basically looking at like.. $310? So confused.. lol

Since you work under the table, you are making the rest of us foot your fair share, so you should get NOTHING!

If you make up to 75 grand, you will get 600. If you are married couple filing jointly and make up to 150,000 (75 grand a piece) you get 1200 (600 a piece).

The 300 dollar rebate is for those who made at least 3000, but didnt pay income taxes. (but who likely paid sales taxes in other areas)

This article is written a little more clearly.

I wonder if our grandkids will be smart enough to come up with the right cream salve to use when the pustules appear.

They are trying to give it too people who don't already have the money to blow. If you don't have any money to blow and you are making more than 75k, you need to re-evalute your lifestyle. I'm making about 30k living by myself in Chicago of all places and I have money to spend without the rebate. If I was making 75k I don't know what I'd do with the extra cash.
