I'm usually not into superstitions like this but found this interesting. They mentioned several times during last nights MNF game that the last Washington Redskins home game before the election has strange ties to the result. If wash wins the incumbent part usually stays in office, if they lose we see a change. Its 17 for 17 in matching the popular vote too.
Last nights game in DC......Washington Redskins lose.
Who is the guy that leads Pitt to victory....Byron LEFTwich.

This unfortunately didn't hold up in 2004 as the Packers beat Washington and
Bush still ended up winning. Hope it's different this year!
This is what I read on CNN.com this morning about it...just thought I'd pass it along:
(CNN) – John McCain may have gotten a bad sign about his White House chances only hours before voters weighed in at the polls
The Washington Redskins, whose pre-Election Day match-ups have a long history of correctly predicting the presidential race, seemed to forecast a victory for Barack Obama Monday night.
For 16 of the past 17 elections, the incumbent party holds on to the White House when the Redskins win their last game before Election Day. When they lose the game, the opposition party has gone on to win the presidential race.
The Pittsburgh Steelers crushed the Redskins Monday night, 23-6, suggesting Barack Obama is poised for a win.
But McCain should not despair — the tradition did not hold true in 2004. Green Bay beat Washington that year, but President Bush narrowly won re-election.
You are correct.

And, as noted, this streak ended in 2004 when Bush defeated Kerry, even though the Skins lost to the Pack at their last home game prior to the election.
Also, to the OP, it's not always been accurate for the popular vote, as Gore won the popular vote in 2000 despite both losing the election and Washington losing the game.

HOWEVER the theory STILL holds true in regards to the popular vote.
17 for 17 in corolation with the Redskins last home game before election outcome.

That's what I'm saying...see my post above. The Skins lost in 2000, so Gore losing the election follows the pattern, but he also should have lost the popular vote if you go by the pattern. Lol, I can't believe we're actually analyzing this freak pattern as if it means anything.
