I looked for another thread but couldn't find it. I'm looking for help from San Diego Folks or anyone who knows the place.

1. Where to stay? Rent a condo or hotel it. And specifically what area

2. Cool stuff to do or have to see. Also, what parts of town to stay away from. Also, would like local activities as I'm not into all the touristy stuff, as much.

3. Just a general description of the town and cool stuff that four mid 20's people would enjoy. and whether anyone can find me some sticky when I get there.

My gf and I and a couple of my single guy friends are looking for a quiet relaxing fun vacation and just want to see the area, not the touristy things. Not looking for much, just would like a more local or regional point of view from the experts.

If you want to be away from the touristy areas and just relax than I would HIGHLY recommend renting a house (http://www.vrbo.com) in the North County Coastal areas, i.e. Encinitas, Carlsbad, Del Mar (if you can afford it), etc. AVOID OCEANSIDE...that's where Camp Pendleton is and crawling with sleezebag Marines (no offense to those in the military).

you HAVE to go surfing where Ed does. I mean, if ure an Ed fan and all! ;)
at night, check out the gaslamp for some action of all kind. That CAN be touristy but its more like a few blocks of bars and restaurants.

There are a couple good places down in the gaslamp (i.e. The Field)...but for the most part they're trendy clubs and restaurants. Of course, if that's the kind of thing you're into... Personally, I tend to avoid the Gaslamp for the mostpart.

I lived in San Diego for about 20 yrs, and my favorite things to do there are still the Gaslamp District and Prospect Ave in La Jolla.
  • Thanks for the help everyone. Hitch-hiker, I'll PM you before we go.
