I've always liked Drew, maybe because I saw him play for the St Paul Saints when he refused to go to Philly. He was an amazing player to watch and from reports was a nice guy as well.

I haven't heard a single complaint about his contract since the grand slam in game 6 vs. Cleveland.
    This weekend we rock Portland

Honestly, I had this discussion with a lot of Phillies fans last night that they're just being dumb booing J.D. Drew when they should be booing the management. He told them the signing bonus we wanted before he was drafted and if the Phillies wouldn't give him the bonus he wouldn't sign. Well, unlike every other athlete who makes that claim, he actually backed it up and didn't sign. The Phils ownership could have signed him but chose not to.

I can't blame Drew at all. If he said don't draft him if you're not going to pay him then don't do it. The Phils said before the draft they weren't going to cave in and pay him so they knowingly wasted a pick hoping Drew would back down.

How can you hate the one athlete who actually stuck to the I won't play for your promise. Almost every other athlete always backs down.

sorry dude but you are wrong here. JD Drew was used by Scott Boras to up signing bonuses for 1st round picks. At the time what they were asking for was totally outrageous compared to what other picks at the time were getting. If you are in fact a Red Sox fan you might like to know that your hero Curt Schilling at the time blasted Drew for his stance and said he should be beaned in the head the 1st time he bats against the Phillies. It wasn't just the fans he pissed off but the players on the Phillies at the time which Schilling was then. And who the heck asked a Red Sox fan who we have the right to boo.

I'm not worried what Curt Schilling thinks because players only think of their own salaries and will obviously not care what a player makes as long as the player helps the team.

Here is why I blame management. The Tigers had the first pick and chose not to draft Drew because they deemed him unsignable. If the Phillies didn't want to mess with Boras all they had to do was draft Vernon Wells or Troy Glaus who were also highly sought after prospects with that pick who were the next position players taken in the draft. And the fact that when I asked Dave Montgomery about it at the Palestra a couple years ago (he goes to a lot of Penn games and sits with Rendell. My buddy is a fundraiser for Rendell and also a Quaker like myself and gets some of Ed's extra tickets) he told me a that they made the mistake and never should have drafted Drew because they knew they were never going to meet his signing demands.

So that is why I blame management. If they knew ahead of time Drew was never going to sign, then why waste the pick.

I am a die hard Red Sox fan and the only thing I would like to contribute to this thread is that Curt Schilling is a fucking loud mouth. Fuck him and whatever he says. Just pitch already you fat jerk off. Mouthing off about Canseco, Bonds, JD drew, and whatever else. SHUT IT!

Whats the dilly with Ortiz? He hurt for a while or what? If hes out for a long time, GO GET BONDS! Just tell him no recliner in front of his locker, no traveling on your own plane, no nothing but hitting homers.
