Anyone done a 15K? How did you know you were ready?

I'm supposed to run one in a month & can do 6 miles at a pretty good pace but I just started to get nervous today that I might not be all the way ready, even in a month.

Just wondering.

I'm a runner. I have one marathon under my belt and I am training for another at the end of october. The excitiment of the crowd and the fact that you are running with other people will get you through the race. Don't short change your training and you will do just fine. Don't second guess yourself on race day at that point there is no turning back so you might as well own it!! Good luck!!

OK that's good to hear because I'm really close to backing out & I don't want to!

I've did a ten mile a year ago.

If you can get to 7 miles on a good pace. You will be fine. You'll be juiced and that will get you through the additional mileage.

it's another 5 k from what you can do now ... pace yourself, fuel and hydrate properly and you should be good to go ... assuming you aren't looking to beat a certain time and finishing is your primary goal ...

i think that advice holds for any long distance exercising. i did a 70 mile bike ride in july and had trained only up to 55 miles prior to the event. it is amazing how the crowd energy or whatever it is gives you that extra kick.

I've run 1/2 marathons (not recently :p). I never ran more than 1/2 of that, in preparation. If you can do 8K, you can do 15 (really!!) :D

I would do a couple more longer runs prior to the event. But the key is to train every day. I would do shorter runs during the week, and one long run a week on the weekends. About 2 weeks before, start tapering off, take two days off for rest before the race and you are ready to go.

I did a triathlon last weekend. I was not sure I could finish, but I stuck with my training schedule, and finished just fine. Now I'm planning on doing another! :)

It will not be easy, but if you wanted something easy and enjoyable, you would go sit at the spa or something.

    Good luck!!!!!!!!

I think if you can do 6 miles now you should be fine. You might not go as fast as you would like, but you will definitely be able to finish.

15k is a fun distance...or at least my favorite local race was a 15k. Once I completed this distance, I knew that I could go the marathon distance...which I did four times.

If you are uncomfortable with your current distance, I would add a mile or two to your long run in the coming month. Remember a lot of this becomes a mental exercise at these distances.

Yes this woulda been my advice as well.

I was supposed to do a 14km on the weekend but came down with the flu. Unfortuantely the training side bores the life outta me and I didnt do any farther than a couple of 8-9 kms a couple of weeks before.

Was hoping the crowd and friends would keep me going the extra few kms
I'll ride the wave where it takes me.

I've run 5K's competitively and 10's on my own (done well). I STILL haven't actually done a marathon.
I trained a couple years ago for the Chicago marathon...got up to 12-15 miles (on very short/express training) and that was about it...bad training!

Anyways, I'll be hitting up some local runs here soon in prep for my marathon.
