just call the ups guy for your workout!!!!!!!
  • well it's weird, I actually had a lot more motivation when I was in great shape. I liked looking at my muscles in the mirror and stuff. It was after I started gaining weight that I started to really hate working out. I don't like feeling like some fat rolly polly novice in the gym. I like going to the gym and being the person other people want to be.

so right now I have no motivation. which is an ENORMOUS problem.

I'm in the same boat. I graduated college in the Summer of 2006 and have not worked out since. I worked out 6 days a week for about 2 hours a day back in school when I had time and the gym was free. I've actually lost 15 pounds since school because of that (weird huh?), my family thinks there is something wrong with me, and my crazy aunt pulled my mother away at x-mas to ask her if I was on drugs because I look too skinny.

but to answer your question, the only gym close to me is a Bally's and I don't know too much about their prices (anyone know?) and a guy I work with that annoys the piss out of me always goes there, so I don't want to see him more than I have to.

I was the same way. When I was in great shape, it was exciting to work out and see how hard I could push myself and I could see the results anytime I looked in the mirror. It's much harder to do that when I feel like I'm covered with a layer of play-doh. lol :D I am getting better, though. I've made great strides in the last month or so.
  • Also I guess I should clarify. Lately, I've been good with the motivation and I've had a good schedule each day and made time for myself to work out while the baby was sleeping. It's just TODAY that I really feel like skipping the workout.

But, I know that's a bad idea because we're going out to dinner tonight and on Saturday and on Sunday my mother-in-law is making me a cake and we'll order take out! I need to do some work to offset some of the damage that I know I'll end up doing this weekend!

I think that is the real reason I don't work out. I don't want to have to start all over. When I was going everyday I knew how much weight to use on every machine and all that, but if I started, not only would I be at a new gym, but I would look like the novice that has never been there before.

you can skip though. no one has to work out every single day.

I skipped yesterday because I was out of work out clothes!

Nah, I don't like the ups guy. He doesn't even ring my doorbell!

The mailman is actually cuter. ;)

I know, but i feel guilty skipping on a day when I KNOW I'm gonna dig into the chocolate truffles my mom just sent me....lol. :o

I know...this problem could be eliminated by just not pigging out. But, that's the one thing I *AM* motivated to do today. ;)

starting all over sucks ass...I am finally getting over that point. but my workouts I was used to doing were just too hard now. but then of course when I did something easier it felt like a waste of time. I am just now started to except a work out that is not as intense as I am used to but that, if I stick with it, will hopefully lead me back to my intense work outs at some point.

and I really just need to lose weight, I think that will help tremendously.
  • Where do you find the motivation to work out when you don't have ANY of your own?!?

Honestly, I think the answer to this question is:

    you won't

True motivation only comes from you, nowhere else imo.

you should do whatever your body feels like doing.

    It certainly does.

I got myself into fantastic shape at the end of college and while I gained a little bit during my last job (I was doing major stress eating!), I was still in pretty good shape and looked and felt great. Then I got pregnant and BAM! In the space of about 6 months, I put on 53 lbs!!! Not to mention, I was on bed rest for the last 3 months, so the little bit of muscle tone I had left just disappeared. Getting back in shape from that has been really tough and frustrating. I've had a LOT of "false starts", where I would just give up because it was ust so hard getting back into the swing of things. But, I finally feel like I'm back on track.

silly as it sounds, i make deals with myself.

if i walk for an hour then i can have whatever i want to eat.

by far, the hardest part is putting on my shoes.

    good luck.
    Nice shirt.

i think the hardest part is getting myself to the gym. once i'm dressed and there the working out part is easy. that's why i just pack my gym clothes in my car and go straight from work before i have time to talk myself out of it! (of course i do still talk myself out of it sometimes. :) )

there are also classes at my gym that i actually look forward to....i get upset if i miss kickboxing. and once summer rolls around i love to be outside on my bike...

I never consider that working out for some reason, even if I bike like 30 miles.

Here! On any given day at least one person posts about a workout. I remember one time I was slacking, and Steve Dunne wrote for me to getcherassoutthere so he isn't the only one suffering. I still think of that funny inspiration. It definitely worked that day! Also, RiverRunner inspires me because it doesn't seem she's just about exercise. I mean she's a RUNNER. That's how I see myself on a heart level :) Yep, if I need encouragement I come here.

  • You need to work out an EXACT goal, write it down and then research exactly how you are going to get there. I've been an on/off exerciser for about 8 years, and I've never been able to stick with it, because I was always hoping to kind of wing it. Unfortunately this doesn't work, and you will forever be disappointed with your results. As soon as you give up the notion that the world owes you a decent body, and actually get off your backside and do something about it, you will really start to reap the rewards.

I started a workout schedule on the 2nd of January, did a total overhaul of my diet, and made a promise to stick with it for at least a month. I've been sick a couple of times which has set me back a little, so I'm only actually in my 5th week, but without blowing my own trumpet, the results are pretty damn good so far. And it is seeing these results that spurs me on. I only have to imagine how much better shape I'll be in, in another five weeks.

So many people approach things in the wrong way, they second guess about the importance of nutrition, and still go by the workout tips they heard from a friend of a friend - all of which is usually not helpful at all. Anyone seriously interested in making a change should check out the E-book Burn the fat, feed the muscle - it tells you EXACTLY what you should be eating and when to eat it. If you follow what it says you will see the results. If you're especially sneaky like me, you can find the book for free on bittorrent (but shush, I didn't tell you that!).

Oh yeah, and if you want to lose fat while you sleep(!) you really should check out this book/site: http://www.hibernationdiet.com/
