What do you listen to?

I am kind of all over the place, but I find that up-tempo stuff really does make the time go faster.

When I jog, I listen to a lot of upbeat, uptempo stuff on my iPod Nano. Prodigy, Basement Jaxx, Chemical Brothers, that kind of stuff. I also have a lot of rock stuff on there, but it varies - sometimes it'll be just like 2 or 3 songs by each artist that I can run to.

I have several PJ songs on there - live versions of DTE, Habit, Leaving Here, and RITFW (all from the 2000 DC show).

And World Wide Suicide is a GREAT song to run to.

I don't really workout anymore, but when I did, it actually made it harder. Like if I ran I would get so pumped to Go or Animal or a hard song and be air drumming really fierce/punching the air like Rocky and I would be exhausted, haha.

  • I have an ipod shuffle just for working out. I have songs from:

-pearl jam (DTE, save you, WWS, severed hand, a few others)
-soundgarden (best for lifting with that heavy powerful sound and slower tempos- outshined, rusty cage, jesus christ pose, superunknown...)
-the donnas (very fun for running)
    -some supersuckers
-bad religion (good for running, a little fast for lifting)
-franz ferdinand's "take me out"- great for running
    - G N'R - you could be mine, welcome to the jungle, night train
-some sebadoh, some throwing muses, etc, for the hell of it
    - a little pete yorn just for the hell of it...
    -some ozzy osbourne...
...ummmm....some others...you know stuff I won't get bored listening to

within the last 6 months i lost my ipod and ishuffle. i had some good rocking stuff on there to keep me going. then i went to use my good ole discman and everyone was looking at me like i was a freakin' idiot. i looked like a total jackass carrying that thing around. i almost wish i had an old cassette walkman to carry around...just for the gasping looks.

now i don't use music to work out. i still lose track of what lap i'm on as i'm running in circles.

    dammit.
I love to turn you on

  • One artist I really love to listen to while working out is Rufus Wainwright! I discovered this by accident thanks to shuffle on my ipod, but it's great! :D

NIN is great. I actually listened to about the first half of Pretty Hate Machine and then switched over to Rufus Wainwright's Want One. I'm probably the only person on earth who has ever willingly listened to those two artists back to back. :D

I vary it, but the staples are usually Foo Fighters, Audioslave and Tool.

  • I don't listen to music when I lift, but when I'm on the elyptical then I do cause it's so freaking boring (Can't wait for the Spring when I can run outside). When I'm on the elyptical i just put my ipod on shuffle which includes PJ, RATM, Soundgarden, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, AIC etc.

But there is this one guy where I work out who has
Rammstein's Du Hast on loop the whole time!

I swear, I've seen him 5 times and each time that song was playing....

    Du
    Du Hast
    Du Hast Mich!

believe it or not i used to run to bob marley 'legend' on cassette tape. it would take me 3-4 miles. looking back i can't believe it, but it worked for a few winter months of indoor running.

  • last night at the foos show I was reminded of their song "stacked dead actors." I used to have that one on my work out mix...must remember to put it on my shuffle asap!
