Seriously, what's the point? I don't get it. Even non-alcoholic beer makes more sense. How did this concept come about? Anyone care to defend this absurd idea?

Light, as in not as many calories in it?

If so, then surely the reason they were made is obvious and that makes more sense than non-alcoholic beer? THAT is a waste of time!!!

    As in less alcohol content.

I'll spare the world of my disgust for low-carb beers for another day.

Yeah thats my thinking also, I dont see anything wrong with a beer having less calories. I can also see the point in Non-alcoholic beers though as I have a friend who was a alcoholic and doesn't drink at all now but it is nice for him to be able to have a non-alcoholic beer when he is out with his friends who all drink.

ok, I will defend my beer of choice. If I can get the same or close to the same alcohol content from a lower calorie beer as from a "regular" beer, I'm all for it. I drink for effect not taste. All things considered, I would like a buzz without the pesky "beer belly".

And light beers being "weaker" is not always true. for example, Coors Light has less calories and MORE alcohol than Guinness Draught.

So raise a glass of see-through beer with me when you see me at the shows this summer!

Light beers are good for when it's hot outside and you feel like drinking 12 beers.

If I'm really thirsty I'll drink Koolaid. Seriously, how much different taste-wise is a Bud Light from a Zima? There are refreshing summer time beers that actually have taste. Unless you just don't care for the taste of beer and are just going for the buzz, I don't see the point of light beer either.

They are good for when you are building a deck and want to drink beer throughout the entire process

Unless I am mistaken Guiness has 6%, Coors has 3.2%

Amstel light is a good beer, so is Sam Adams light.....thats about it for me.

This was a little scene from my screenplay I wrote for my screen writing class back in college 10 years ago:

Guy 1: "Why the hell do you only have light beer in your fridge?"
Guy 2: "Does it really matter - beer is beer."
Guy 1: "Oh, It matters. Don't you know what light beer and having sex in a canoe have in common?"
    Guy 2: "No, what?"
Guy 1: "They're both f*cking close to water."

i'm a lite beer drinker. less calories and since it takes next for nothing for me to be drunk these days, high alcohol content definitely isn't a priority... plus i really think the taste is more refreshing when it's hot out.

Guys! Light Beers are awesome because they tastes great! No, wait, it's because they're less filling. No, they tastes great! Wait, they're less filling....

    Tastes great!
    Less Filling!

Who chooses to drink a beer because it's less filling??? What ingenious advertising....I guess I still remember it.

Is the beer to blame. Miller was the first brewer to make Light beer.... changing it to "Lite" because it was more acceptable then "Light" psychologically for the masculine beer drinker. "Lite" took Miller from like the 5th biggest beer maker to the 2nd biggest brewer in the U.S. It gave rise to all the other Light beers.

The only time I drink Light beer is when it is REALLLY hot out and I'm on the river or just outside with friends... and thats just because heavy beers don't sit well when its 90 plus degrees outside.

    Otherwise, Light beer is shit.

Thanks! I got quite a few laughs for some of my lines during class and when we acted it out on stage. No, never got the chance to film it or finish it. I wanted to finish about 100-110 pages enough for a 90-100 minute movie. Only got to about page 50 when my hard drive got fried and I lost everything, but that was well after my class was over.

And for the record, I know it's not the best beer in the world, but if you ever see me out, I usually have a Miller Lite in my hands at all times in a bar. ;)

Amstel Light and Sam Adams Light are good light beers. But, for a working man like myself nothing compares to a few (dozen) Miller Lites. Miller Lite is perfect for binge drinking! And, it tastes about 3498349834 times better than the cat piss Bud Light.

The only use I can see for a lite beer is when trying to rehydrate yourself the morning after a night of drinking real booze...

The only lite beer that will ever touch my lips is Amstel Lite or Sam Adams Lite and I will only drink them if that is what's available. If it's hot out I'll drink a Bohemia or a Negra Modela. Lite beer to me is like decaf coffee, it's simply unnatural.
