I lost a friend and former roomate in the Iraq war yesterday. Truly sad, only 29 years old. I kept in touch but didn't see him as much since he joined the Marines. You see and hear of deaths from the war in the news all the time, and they all are sad, but when it hits home it really hits hard. One of my favorite memories and sadly one of the last being with him was getting some beers with him and others before and during the Summerfest Pearl Jam show in 06. Truly sad that he is now gone, may he RIP. I don't agree with the war, but I feel a little bit better knowing he's a hero to me since he gave his life fighting for us. It's obvoiusly not being heard, "No more war"!

I may not be a familiar face around here, and am going "post-happy" for the last few minutes on topics of t.v. shows, or sports,... but these are the real things that matter. I am truly sorry to have read about your loss.

I am very sorry for your loss.
My condolences go out to you, his family, and anyone else who's life he touched.

I hope your coping is okay, having been in your situation I know it can be tough..I still miss my sis, cousin, grandfather, all whom were very close and made a big impact, but while mourning is healthy and much needed...i'm sure your loved one would rather see you celebrate their life :)

I am so sorry for your loss.

my brother served in afghanistan as a sniper for a ranger battalion, and every day that he was gone was agony. he lost a third of his men, and several others lost limbs or were seriously injured. i thank god every day that for some reason, my family was spared the heartache that other families have had to go through. yesterday, he informed us that he just reinlisted and is going green beret, meaning he'll be going to iraq soon. we all clenched our teeth and said we were behind him 100%.
if you want to talk or anything, pm me please.

Thank you all for the nice words and thoughts. It's getting better with time. As hard as hearing the news was for me, I think it was harder having to pass it on to two other friends. I hope none of you ever has to tell friends that another one of your friends has died, it's a horrible experience. Thanks again for the kind words and thoughts.

Hey, I figured I could post at least one thing uplifting. Opposition to this war is occuring in unlikely places. I work for the Division of Veteran Services and like most people, they were all gung-ho for it when it started. Now, all I hear is tough ol' marines saying we have to figure out a way to end this thing right now! People everywhere are seeing the light.

    I'm sorry about your friend.

Yeah and 4000+ other families have been affected by the same senseless and pointless deaths. If you figure everyone of them had 10 close family and friends, then you have 40,000 people whose worlds have been devastated. And 10 is probably way low.

And to make it worse, I heard yesterday that about 25% of what we all paid yesterday in taxes is going to fund this goddam war .

without warriors there would be no war. Soldiers are not innocent. They knew what they were signing up for when they enlisted. Killing in the name of patriotism is still killing. They all engaged in it willingly. Some get killed themselves. It's what they chose to do. I see nothing honorable in that.

i'm so sorry for your loss and to all the friends and families how have lost love ones as a result of this "war" and also to the tens of thousands of soldiers who have come back to a government who doesn't give a shit about them

I speak for a man who gave for this land
Took a bullet in the back for his pay
Spilled his blood in the dirt and the dust
    He's back to say:

What he has seen is hard to believe
And it does no good to just pray
He asks of us to stand
And we must end this war today

With his mind, he's saying, "No more!"
With his heart, he's saying, "No more!"
With his life he's saying, "No more war!"

With his eyes, he's saying, "No more!"
With his body, he's saying, "No more!"
With his voice, he's saying, "No more war!"

Yeah, nothing's too good for a veteran
Yeah, this is what they say
So nothing is what they will get
    And there's no American way

The lies we were told to get us to go
Were criminal (?)... let us be straight
Let's get to the point where our voices get heard
And I know what I'll say

With his mind, he's saying, "No more!"
With his heart, he's saying, "No more!"
With his life he's saying, "No more war!"

With his eyes, he's saying, "No more!"
With his voice, he's saying, "No more!"
With his body, he's saying, "No more war!"

    No more innocents dying
    No more terror rising
    No more eulogizing
    No more evangelizing
    No more presidents lying
    No more war

With our minds, we're saying, "No more!"
With our hearts, we're saying, "No more!"
With our lives, we're saying, "No more war!
