so i do this thing every now and then.
its something i learned as a kid, when i would have real bad nightmares.
but now it usually happens when i am physically exhausted.

but i'll be fast asleep and dreaming. and then somehow, whatever i'm doing, i will realize, this is a dream. i'm dreaming right now. and then i can change the outcome of my dream. i know its weird but i like to fly in my dream and once i realize i am dreaming, its the first thing i do.
its also really great because i can think of a problem i am having and think of it and mentally see what the outcomes are.

is it anyone else or am i just strange.

That happened to me a lot when I was younger.

Does anyone else ever wake up right about when they are going to get it on with a really hot girl?.. I hate that. Happened to me a few night ago. I couldn't fall back asleep fast enough damnit!

  • it's called lucid dreaming, and it's actually been studied a bit and is a very cool phenomenon. It's happened to me a couple times, and apparently you can train yourself to do this whenever you want, something about going into a meditative state before actually going to sleep or something. one of my friends is reading a book on how to do that for a philosophy class, and if it works i'll definitely try it

I can't do that but I remember my dreams pretty clearly
and I've had dreams of things before they happen, like I had dreams about two different women I used to work with being pregnant, before either of them found out they really were pregnant.

I have experienced this. It's so weird.

i actually trained myself as a kid. like i said i used to have really bad nightmares and so i learned some tricks. i would have my favorite stuffed animal (simon) sit by my bed and focus on nothing but that as i went to sleep. if i had a dream where my stuffed animal showed up, and i wanst in my room i knew that it was a dream. then i could just keep trying to focus on it so i could take control of the dream. there were some other tricks i learned but that one really helped. as i grew up tho it got harder. but as i get stressed and my dreams get more stressful, i find myself using that technique to get control. it sucks when things are bad and you go to sleep only to get more anxious.

I do this at times, but at other times it can be just the opposite where I find it very hard to come out of a dream into reality. It's frightening until you get your grip on your surroundings.

Almost all of my dreams are lucid to some extent. For the past year or so I have found it very difficult to get into the stage of deep sleep and tend to feel semi-awake most of the time, unless I am actually exhausted. This means I have quite a lot of control over my dreams. They are still bizarre and abstract in content though. Disturbingly so considering I am aware that I am dreaming.

This happens to me most of the time. I'm usually aware I'm dreaming...and most of the times my dreams are about things that are going on in my life currently. Once I realize it's a dream I change it if I don't like where it's heading...or give myself special powers, etc.

I've done that a few times. Usually it will happen when I have a dream about falling from a high point of some kind. Once, I had a dream that I began floating higher and higher. At some point in the dream I got uncomfortable about how high up I was and that triggered that it was a dream. Bitch of it was I couldn't control it enough to get back down. I stayed up there for a long ass time.

  • I've done that a lot recently, although I have no control over my dreams. Another thing is, I dream... sort of from the outside, like I'm looking in as if it's a movie. I find that wierd.

I get this all the time! It's usually towards the time I would normally be getting up, and normally when the dream seems to good to be true! I can't tell you how many times I've 'won' the lottery or been front row at a concert waiting for PJ or someone else cool to come out; only for me to suddenly realise: this isn't real! The dream then only tends to go on for a few more minutes and I wake up.

What's even more weird is that I can wake up, get up to go pee, then when I go back to sleep I can carry a dream on from where I left off!
  • Lucid dreaming is amazing.

I have done it a few times. It can be quite difficult. Thinking about it a lot before bed and telling yourself "I'm going to realize I'm dreaming tonight" can help make it happen.

At least that's what I've found works for me.

When you enter the lucid state, you can do anything you want. Anything. And I have found what works is verbal commands. Simply say aloud the situation or place you want to be in or what you want to do and it will be.
  • this happened to me last night for the first time ever! very strange to see a thread about it...

I was very nervous in my dream as I had been caught up by the police for murder (wtf?) and I came to this realization in my dream that I was dreaming and calmed myself down. It was pretty awesome.
