anyone want to trade some stories?

edit. aw hell, ill just mention some cause i was talking to my friends about it and they didnt believe me.

anyway.
i was telling this story about one saturday morning. i was working the phones and about 10 am i get a phone call from a guy in a room. he asks if i could be discreet. always a sign something interesting is about to be said. he asks if our gift shop had any clothes to sell. i said" prolly a tshirt" so he asks if he could borrow some pants. ... .... "umm no" "PLEEEEAASE!!" he asked. then asks if he could also ask another favor. if one of our bellman could go to the 2nd floor and see if a back nissan with liscense plate xyz was there.
well, what happened is he picked up a hooker on sixth street downtown.(6th street is the bar area, not red light district) so they go back to his room . they start to go at it. and that is the last thing he remembers before waking up. naked. and with everything in his room gone. including his car keys. so we gave him some bellmans workpants and a tshirt. and his car was gone. we felt bad for the guy.

until he asked for one last thing....

"ummm do you have any suggestions what i can tell my wife ?"
mean people suck!

  • I worked for a hotel for a year in college. Nothing that interesting happened though. We did have a family of Scottish nomadic con men that lived at the hotel for two months. I think they would prey on elderly folks by conning them into bogus driveway repair or something. We never had enough proof to do anything about it though.

That and the usual collection of things people would leave in their rooms: business men would leave girlie mags, business women would leave sex toys, and someone left an inflatable sheep once (no lie).

A friend of mine who worked at a different hotel said a woman once left her "special toy" behind and actually called the front desk after she had left to see if they would hold it for her. She actually came back for it.

    shit smeared walls???

we did have a big group of kids stay with us for a citywide convention. a bunch of kids 14-17. and one of them shit in the pool on the first day. we had to shut down the pool and have it drained, cleaned, and a bunch of other stuff. people were pissed that the pool was closed. and then we told them why. the kid that did it had his friends rat him out because they were mad, but we couldnt prove anything. apparently he thought it would be funny.

singularity.. what hotel do you work at? what do you do there.

i was a bellman, pbx operator, front desk, accounting, reservationist, manager on duty.

yeah, shit smeared walls. a guy got so drunk and had to go to the bathroom... ended up missing the toilet and tried to clean it up and literally got it all over the bathroom.

i work for marriott. i've been a banquet server, overnight front desk, accountant, and now assistant controller. worked for a hotel in north jersey, NYC, and now i am in westchester.

yeah, banquets was another world. shit load of fun, with awesome people.

guests wanting their movies adjusted is one of my pet peeves. totally watched a porno for a few minutes and didn't want to get charged. there are so many people looking to get free shit day in day out. if you go to the front desk and bitch about something, odds are you are getting something take off your bill. its pretty absurd sometimes. in this business, "the customer is always right."
  • My parents and nearly all my aunts and uncles worked at a hotel for a period of time during high school. It's actually how my parents met. Anyway, there's the usual unwanted mess left behind in bathrooms and needing to clean up puke and finding used condoms and such.

There were a couple of suicides while my parents worked here. The chamber maids knew something was up when the room should have been vacated and the deadbolt was on. For one of them, it was my Dad who had to climb across from the balcony of the room next door and go in through the sliding door to unlock the deadbolt. Pretty sucky situation for a teenager to find himself in.

I've never worked for a hotel. I'm the girl that pool hops at nearly every stay, though.
