WaterProof Casts???

Anyone have any experience with these?
My son has had a cast on his left arm ALL SUMMER!!
I thought he was going to get his cast OFF last Friday but the ORTHO said "Another 3 weeks" I frowned because the poor kid hasn't been able to swim all summer. The Doc recommeded a "waterproof cast" for and extra $35 so of course I agreed! He swam on Saturday and Sunday. The outside of the cast is fine but the inside I'm worried about. My son insists that it "feels dry" in there but what if it's not?

Never heard of them but I'm happy they exist. I've been putting off surgery on my left foot because there ain't no way I'm not swimming, rafting, hot spring exploring, etc., during the summer months. Maybe this way I can still be active.

I always had a bad habit of cutting my own casts off way early so I could get back to playing. Now I suffer from arthritis in a few places that I didn't allow to heal fully.

Yeah, it's the "SOCK" part of the cast on the inside that is "WATER-PROOF".
    I sure hope it's ok.....
good luck with your procedure.......if you ever have it done.

It should be just fine. I believe the only downfalls are that it will smell a little bit more when it's taken off and have a bit more dry skin flakes attached to his arm. Also if he has any arm hair it'll probably be a bit discolored/darker than normal.

That's about it though. Otherwise it'll be fine. :) 3 more weeks for he poor guy, eh? Geez, that's gonna be an eternity. I went through two summers with casts/surgeries. Horrible times, although I liked the attention from the girls. :p

I wish. They're already using multiplication flashcards; I'm still trying to figure out the letter A.
