that almost happened to my friend a few weeks ago. she wasn't asleep though but around lots of people.
we were in a bar, watching a band one night.. after the gig my friend said she needed something to drink ASAP. we went down to the bar, I had to go to the toilet but left the friend with another one.
she got to the bar and at this point was feeling VERY sick. her hands were shaking, she could barely speak and she was trying to tell the barmaid she needed a Coke or something immediately, that she has diabetes and that her sugar was way low. she had this bracelet on (I don't know how common these are in other countries) that tells other people she's diabetic, if anything like this should happen so they know what's wrong, and she was showing it to the girl.
but she didn't do anything!! she must've thought my friend was drunk or then she was just plain stupid. :mad:
after a minute or two this other bartender walks up and takes a look at my friend, who's about to pass out, sees her bracelet and starts pouring Coke for her.
had the other girl not come by, I don't know what could have happened.
it was super scary, my friend thought she was gonna die. :( it'd never happened to her before..
frankly, she knew she was "risking it" a bit when she didn't immediately go get something sugary when she felt like her sugar was low. but she figured she'd be fine cause we were sitting down.
now she has these glucose packets (rocket glucose or something) that she always has with her.
damn lucky she had her bracelet on that night!
I wear one of those. I've had it for years. In fact, it's so old the MEDIC ALERT emblem is almost worn off. I'm glad your friend is OK. I've never heard of ROCKET GLUCOSE, i'm gonna look into it.

I'm not sure if "rocket glucose" is the correct term for it.. it's just a translation of the name it goes by here.
basically it's just a packet of pure glucose. apparently it tastes like shite but is pretty good for emergencies.
she had to give/feed one of those to her sister's boyfriend this weekend. (he doesn't have diabetes but his blood sugar was wayyyyy low) the dumb kid had had nothing to eat all day and had spend all his time drinking beer and other alcoholic beverages. also, he'd taken a prescription allergy medicine from a friend and was feeling sick, unsurprisingly.
my friend made sure he was ok and the next day gave him a good old rant for acting a bit more wisely in the future.
"Don't be faint-hearted, I have a solution! We shall go and commandeer some small craft, then drift at leisure until we happen upon another ideal place for our waterside supper with riparian entertainments."

I honestly have no idea if it would work for diabetes, but they make these like gummi squares for long-distance runners and cyclists. they have a TON of sugar and come in little portable packets (so you can carry them in a race) and are digestable so that the carbs go right to your blood stream for quick energy. Might be worth looking into- they have a weird texture but taste ok.

Yeah, I actually have an emergency injection kit (GLUCAGON) for situations like but my parents didn't know where it was. I need to keep it out in the open. My ex husband only had to administer it once........it worked.

lol........yeah, my ex husband was a mess after the fact. He was pissed at me becuase I just came out of it without knowing that anything had even happened (after he gave me that injection). We were going to see Guns N Roses that night and I woke up in mid sentence about the show. He said minutes before that I was in the middle of convulsing! I remember how bad I felt because my ex husband was so upset :(

Pix, that is SO scary. I am so glad you are ok. My mum is diabetic and I know how shaky she can get when hers drops and not even that low. A girl I work with carries those rocket candies in her purse (not that you need advice from me ) in case hers drops.
