New Cars...ugh!

So I have a 2004 Jetta and I love it. So much that I bought my lease out last year. (It was a good deal $$ wise). Anywho, since then I've had some electrical issues.

And, it's left me stranded 2 x now. Once due to an ignition coil (i've had all 4 replaced "just in case" and yesterday because my battery died).

Part of me says I should get a new car. Time is right to buy, being stranded SUCKS and really, a car should be reliable. I can make a list of the electrical issues I've had (hasn't cost much, but it's the principal). I drive a TON and winter is coming.

Should I look at a new car or take my chances? I'm having the WORST time with this. I love my Jetta! It's perfect, great on gas, compact, good in snow, heated seats....but the electrical thing sucks.

The other thing is I can't find a car I love! I have my eye on a Jetta GLI. Yes, I know...another Jetta. But it would be under warranty and I do love VW despite. Or a Honda Accord. But there is a Major difference in cost. And I've realized that I'll always have a car payment and I'm cool with that.

Any advice????? Anyone had problems with Jettas? I'm really in a conundrum here!

I've had a VW not a Jetta, but have known many people with Jettas. First off, where are you getting your mechanical work done? This is probably the most important thing.

The battery dying is pretty random I would think. If you like a Jetta, you could always get an Audi.

Or, more accurately, it doesn't rust, but that warranty you bought to have it undercoat for 5 years went undone (not your fault though).
  • If you want a reliable car, get rid of the VW. You'll be stranded again and again :p
  • I am in the same boat, bought my car new in 2001, now it has over 150,000 mi. The heating/AC system is tweaked. This is totally the time to buy new, with all the concessions. I was looking at a jeep compass, it gets awesome mileage for a small suv, I hate suvs mind you, but this one caught my eye...Anyway, new, fully loaded, you can walk for about $20,000, thousands and thousands of manuf. and dealer concessions. I am really thinking hard, but I bought a home in July, all new furniture, etc. etc. so I am hesitant to dip any more into my savings until my trusty chevy blows up. The moral of this post, this is the time to buy!
And I'm not living this life without you, I'm selfish and clear
And you're not leaving here without me, I don't wanna be without
My best... friend. Wake up, to see you could have it all
  • I had a Jetta for years. It was a 92 I think. I loved it!
But a few years ago Volkswagen was bought out by.......I forget now but I heard they are not making them the way they used too.
