Johnny Depp in The Secret Window

I'm watching this movie on FX right now (never seen this before) and Johnny Depp's character is totally similar to Raoul Duke from Fear and Loathing. Does anyone else notice this?

Nope, But I did watch Fear and loathing today. Such a fucked up movie(in a good way of course )

During the first part of Secret Window, Johnny Depp's character is on the couch talking to his ex wife (Maria Bello), and for some reason I see a lot of Raoul Duke right there.

His character in Secret Window reminded me a bit of his character in The 9th Gate. I think it's cos Depp has 3 or 4 'basic' characters and then builds on them for the specifics of a given character, so a few of his roles are fairly similar. But that's not to say he's a bad actor. He's done a great job to avoid getting typecast (all thanks to Burton no doubt).

That pirate he plays reminds me a bit of Raoul Duke, though.

can agree with this one! i always mix those two characters. and can't always tell who is who. this is like something one for me... lol

for me 'once upon a time in mexico' was abusive to my brain, i'd watch secret window twice before seeing that again....eewwwwwww

i think so highly of depp, i do seem to forget he definitely has been in his fair share of piece-of-shite flicks!

i wish i could forget it, i truly do. it's like getting hit by a bus or having a vulture take a dump on you....never leaves the memory bank.

not that either has happened to me *knock on wood*, though i'd choose the vulture dropping over seeing that movie again. with no umbrella even :(

oh i know!! and NOT MISSING EITHER! c'mon indeed...what the hell? i think i even said that out loud in the theater at that point i didn't care about anybody in the movie, i wanted everybody to die. well except the dog....but everybody else, F 'EM lol

bringing it back to the initial Q....i can't say i see raoul duke in secret window but it's been soooooo long since i've seen either. i know i am a rarity in that i didn't care for fear and loathing in las vegas. depp and del toro were fantastic in their roles, but there was just too much vomit! bleck! so, i honestly can't compare. now this 9th gate i don't think i ever saw it? i'll have to look on netflix and see if it looks worth seeing......hmmm. rare for me to miss a depp flick.

i haven't seen 'fear and loathing' or '9th gate' im a bad johnny fan.

if i ever meet him i want to be reimbursed $9 though for the mexico flick. wasn't enrique eglesias in that too???? what the HELL lol
