My friend who lives 80 miles away sent me two things in 1 envelope. The graduation announcement said that the daughter's commencement ceremony is at 11 a.m. on a saturday. Next, the invitation inside said to celebrate at their open house at 4 p.m. that day. Keep in mind, they live over a bridge that's a couple of miles long on the way to a resort. Is it tacky for me to RSVP that I'll attend the party and just not go to the ceremony? She went to a private school and I would imagine the ceremony would be over in 2 hours. I don't know, I've never been to graduations except for my immediate family.

Would you just go to the party with a gift?

Yeah, I would just attend the party and take a gift. That's probably what they expect non-family members to do, anyway.

yes the "open house" invitation for 4 p.m. said to (rsvp) email the graduate. I'm sure it's so they'll know how much alcohol and food to buy. My friend spoils her guests and we'll be sitting by the pool too.
