3 weeks without washing her hair

I got my hair cut last night. My stylist was fixing an elderly woman's hair, she curled it with the curling iron, teased it and sprayed it. After she left, I asked how long will that hairstyle last? my stylist answered 3 weeks, that is 3 weeks til she washes it again. I said she goes 3 weeks w/o washing her hair?

I never understood the deal with the elderly ladies not washing their hair..or wearing a wig just because they didn't want to style it.. and there is nothing worse then hugging your grandmother and catching a wiff of her hair.

that's not true, your grandmother could be dead and maybe you don't have a chance to give her a hug.

I can no longer skip a day any more. I am now old, I suffer from hot flashes and night sweats. My hair looks good (smoother) when I wake up but I would not want to offend anyone like the person said about hugging your grandma. I can't stand that odor. So I have to wash it daily and it's really dry on the ends. I have to let it air dry and looks like a bad afro. some days I straighten it.

  • I wash my hair every second or third day. I have thick, naturally curly hair so it's better for my hair have it's natural oil rather than washing it all out.

Yikes. I don't want to think about how painfully itchy my scalp would be after three weeks. I once went five days and it was barely tolerable. :(

People with dreads (or the ones i know anyway) wash them twice a week.
  • some people are more oily than others...

I know a lot of people with dreads, some wash them, some don't. But either way, their dreads don't stink.

Natural oils are good for hair. I think nothing of going 4 days without washing it, when I was 20 I'd go up to a week, people assumed I'd applied some mousse product as I had that sex-god wet-look.

For women maybe its a lil different, definitely that tobacco smell needs to go!!!

I think elderly peoples' hair is dryer, particularly if they color it. And I thought I was stretching it if I went a third day without washing!

My hubby had dreadlocks and used to wash them every third or fourth day....once you get a really good set of dreddies, you can wash them whenever you want, just takes ages for them to dry....

ew lord. I swear my hair is greasy feeling by bed time if I shower in the early morning. I felt like the nastiest hag ever today because on tuesdays and fridays I have to be at work from 5:30am-8am. I just roll out of bed and show up in yoga pants and a sweatshirt, and today I ran errands afterwards and I must have looked like a homeless grease ball in target today buying all sorts of crap I didn't need. I got home and my hair was such a gross mess I couldn't do anything but shower. Ew!

I know exactly how you feel.

but some weekends, I'm lazy. A few times since the 12 years I've lived in my house, I did not shower as soon as I got up....and then we had power outages.
We have well water and it's electric -- no shower unless hubby hooks up the generator. And I felt gross.
