I was in Pearl Jam fans' favorite store Walmart yesterday. At the checkout, the sign said, "If you attempt to buy cigarettes and look 40 or under, you will be carded." And the 40 was in quotes. Is it like that in all stores now? I remember when the sign used to say 26.

But carding a 40 year old to buy cigarettes? Please.

Interesting. I've seen signs of 35 and older at the 7-11's here.

On a side note, this past week I went out for drinks with my supervisor after work, who is 49. He was carded.

I'm 25, she never even asked my age or any kind of confirmation. And I feel that I have a baby face too. Or at least I'm constantly told that I have one.

LOL. Yeah, next time I talk to him I'll ask if she showed up to his doorstep. :p

It was just odd, she did make a reference asking if I were his son. That was strange. So it was just odd as to why she didn't card me. She didn't act interested in him one bit. She was actually only 23. So I dunno. Maybe a manager was watching her at the moment also? I guess it could have been a number of things.
  • maybe because smoking speeds up the aging process? And besides, signs say a lot of shit. Doesn't mean people do the shit on the signs though.

like carding him to boost his ego, resulting in a better tip for her!

40? How the hell did they pick that age. Don't they just ask for ID if somone looks young. I don't smoke so I really don't know how that works. I still get carded when I order drinks and Im over 21. But that is kind of flattering. :)

    America is retarded.

The signs never go above 25 here.

I agree it is retarded...what is the age anyway...over 21?

Those new signs are so stupid. It should be 25 because you can honestly do an appropriate visual age check for anyone older. Or everyone should have to present ID before purcahsing age-restricted products because apparently more than a handful of people are too fucking stupid to tell. "She looked 33!"

Perhaps where those products are sold you should be tested somehow (like a series of "card" or "don't card" flash cards, or simulation situations) before being hired???? Hire an idiot, don't expect much.

Nah, here alcohol and tobacco are both 18 but the signs generally say "If you look under 21" and I have seen them go up to 25, max.

It's silly how the rules are implemented though. I've been ID'd by the same person in the same bar a few days apart who I have actually had a conversation with just because I had a shave.

By "good night out", I do, of course, mean "interesting shenanigans with a cross-dressing Norwegian and his rottweiler." :o
