years ago, pb was in the same class with margarine, a no no. then I thought pb is ok, now....
i recently had stroke screening done at work. i had my carotid arteries (in my neck) scanned. i did not think technicians are allowed to interpret results...
she said i have plaque in my arteries but my report would say "normal." she said to watch my fats. i told her i pig out on icecream. she said icecream isn't bad. maybe she does not realize (since i weigh 135) that i can eat nearly a quart in one afternoon.
she felt that since i used to smoke*, that's why i have plaque. i've been eating peanut butter lately but did not mention it to her.
so what do you think? i've never read that peanut butter has the good fat like almonds.
my report will arrive in the mail in 2 weeks.
*i only smoked 5 cigarettes a day for 18 years...of and on...now i cannot be around it, can't tolerate it (which is bad at a pearl jam concert!)

my great aunt smoked when she was young
and she too was a champion ice cream pig. i believe ice cream is bad too.
she had a stroke when she was around 70 and she was very obese.
she donated her body to science to learn about strokes. she was pretty old when she died.
it's a good thing i gave up my chocolate icing addiction. that could be clogging my artery, i used to eat a can in 2 days.
but natural peanut butter? i don't think i'd like that.9/98, 9/00 - DC, 4/03 - Pitt., 7/03 - Bristow, 10/04 - Reading, 10/05 - Philly, 5/06 - DC, 6/06 - Pitt., 6/08 - Va Beach, 6/08 - DC, 5/10 - Bristow, 10/13 B'more

Natural peanut butter is fine. It has the same type of fats as regular peanut butter, but it's better for you since it doesn't contain any sugar/fructose additives.
And ice cream IS bad for you btw.0 -

but oh so delicious.
iluvcats, I'll echo everyone else and say peanut butter is like eating nuts is high in calories but very nutritious. you have to get the natural kind though, the kind you have to stir.0 -
like everyone said
natural peanut butter is the way to go
peanut butter is a gift from god!!!!!!!!!..and you will come to find that we are all one mind, capable of all that's imagined and all conceivable0 -
It is important that the pb is organic too. Not just natural.
Peanuts can be full of toxins.Cause I'm broken when I'm lonesome
And I don't feel right when you're gone away0 -
Yes ice cream is bad! Full of sugar and saturated fat. Peanut butter is good for you! The fat is unsaturated, and it in fact helps to lower cholesterol. You might want to look at other things in your diet. Fatty meat (that includes most processed meats like burgers, sausages etc), cheese (although ok in moderation does contain saturated fat), full fat milk etc. Then there are all the hydrogenated oils and fats that are put in loads of convenience foods like cakes, biscuits, chocolate etc.0

i really do need to eat natural food
i posted b4 about my pre-hypertention and how i have to stay away from salt (which Jif or Peter Pan contain).
do you guys like crunchy? i do, i eat it out of the jar (after dinner)
i think i have a tape worm. i eat constantly (my uncle has one, well my uncle who might have a personality disorder told me his brother had a 3 inch one discovered during a colon test -- but he might have said that to make me faint)
he's crazy, literally...they say you get skinny and i eat enough for 3 people.
the uncle with the worm was pitifully skinny! i'm afraid to ask him if it is true.9/98, 9/00 - DC, 4/03 - Pitt., 7/03 - Bristow, 10/04 - Reading, 10/05 - Philly, 5/06 - DC, 6/06 - Pitt., 6/08 - Va Beach, 6/08 - DC, 5/10 - Bristow, 10/13 B'more

i have trouble swallowing meat. i cook it for my family and i barely touch it maybe 3 bites. i would love to go vegetarian but my husband and my mom (our new resident) are meat eaters.9/98, 9/00 - DC, 4/03 - Pitt., 7/03 - Bristow, 10/04 - Reading, 10/05 - Philly, 5/06 - DC, 6/06 - Pitt., 6/08 - Va Beach, 6/08 - DC, 5/10 - Bristow, 10/13 B'more

Nice story! If you eat more often you increase your metabolism, so your body burns food up at a far faster rate, and it doesn't store so much of the food as fat, becasue it knows it's going to be getting more food soon. That's why I cringe when I hear overweight people saying things like "I've been really good today, I didn't have breakfast and I've just snacked on fruit"! Little do they know, but they are forcing the metabolism to slow down, which will make it even harder to lose weight! So you may be skinny becasue you eat so often.
I LOVE the crunchy 'Whole Earth' peanut butter we have over here. I can get through nearly half a jar on just two pieces of toast!0 -

I can see how that would be difficult. Perhaps you could try making some really decent veggie food and seeing what they think? I've been vegetarian for about 13 years, and I cook for my meat eating parents all the time, they love the things I make. That does of course depend on how fussy they are when it comes to eating.0 -

Oh boy there is a joke in here somewhere....."I don't believe in PJ fans but I believe there is something, not too sure what." - Thoughts_Arrive0 -
Peanut Butter is my favorite food and I consider Ice Cream one of my least favorite foods (I hate it). So this thread is funny that it brings the best and worst of the food world together for me0

I agree, I heard your body becomes like a bear in hibernation when you skip meals. I eat in the middle of the night, sometimes.
look where icecream falls on the dietary fats chart (*sobbing*)

Try organic soy butter. I now like it much better than peanut butter. I buy the crunchy kind with honey. The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way it treats its animals. Ghandi0
