  • I've heard the oil absorbs better from someone who takes it for cardiac reasons.
bombs, dropping down, please forgive our hometown
  • Personally, I prefer fish oil instead of flax. If you do take flax, you'll have to grind up the seeds for it to absorb well. Here are some nuggets on both flax & fish oil:

How to Choose: Fish Oil or Flaxseed Oil?

    · Fish and flaxseed oil are good sources of omega-3 fatty acids.

    · Flaxseed are a good source of the essential fatty acid, omega-6 and also contain omega 3.

    · Fish oil contains Eicosopentaenoic acid (EPA) and Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). EPA and DHA can be incorporated immediately into plasma and lipid cell membranes.

    · Flaxseed oil contains alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), a precursor to EPA and DHA, and must be converted to EPA and DHA in the body.

    · Fish and flaxseed (ground whole and oil) both offer heart-healthy benefits and help fight inflammation in the body.

    · Recent research has shown that fish oil (EPA and DHA) may also help support emotional well-being and brain function.

    · Lignans in ground flaxseeds (not oil) provide protective benefits (i.e. breast, colon, prostate) and also provide a source of fiber.

    · Much of the clinical research on omega-3 fatty acids has been with fish oil (EPA and DHA).

    · Flaxseed oil is alternative omega-3 source for vegetarians.

thanks! 2 yrs ago, I bought orange flavored fish oil from my chiropractor. I took it for 2 weeks, I think the dosage he told me to take was too high. The last time I took it, I nearly gagged. I feel I really need it for the anti inflammatory benefits (I have arthritis in my neck).

Yeah, now fish oil comes in these thick capsules that don't dissolve until they're far enough down in your stomach. So you never get the taste of the fish oil. Any bottle that says "no fish burps" or something like that is what you want.

I take both fish oil and ground flax every day in a smoothie.

I use a high quality fish oil from Carlson, and have never ever had the fishy-burps. :)

No, flax seed isn't a magical food ;)

If you want to feel energized, eat a balanced diet that includes more complex carbohydrates, and fewer simple carbohydrates. Nothing else will even come close to increasing your energy for an extended period imo.
