    do you have tinnitus?

I've been wearing earplugs for maybe 5 years. My right ear is worse than my left. You have to tell people (at work for example) that they have to speak directly to you (not from the other room.) The audiologist gave me some communication tips.

I must be blessed. I gig quite a bit, and am the loudest acoustic musician you'll ever hear in a small venue, frequently tipping the scales at about 110db. (I'm all rigged up to pedals.)

However, I've had ear tests, and I can hear stuff that apparently only dogs should hear. The good luck can't last forever.

I can't tell if my hearing is going or if I just no longer give a shit what other people are talking about. Probably a little of both...

maybe get your eyes checked if you cant READ her posts ;)

i think my hearing is going a wee bit... i struggle to hear conversations in pubs/bars/etc... and yet everyone else has heard what that person has said.
oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.

oh man... loud bars and pubs are the worst for me... i cannot hear what anyone is saying and everyone else is communicating just fine.

i kinda get embarrassed and uncomfortable :(

  • i try to use earplugs now but it seems the damage is already done.
we went to see Boston last week and our seats ended up being in the 10th row ... (I forgot the plugs but shoved tissue in my ears!)
and the show was soooo loud that the next day I was dealing with the ringing etc.

my two teenage sons are musicians and i beg them to use earplugs and they usually don't ... what a shock, huh? ;)

Try to covince them to use ear plugs at least while at practice. I never wear them on stage but I do at all practices. My hearing should last at least 3 - 5 weeks longer as a result.
