I am moving in a month and I am putting in a new kitchen.

I need ovens - do I do a double wall oven and a cooktop? do I do a range? are the electric cooktops better/worse than gas? there are so many choices and so confusing!!!

If anyone has any recommendations - brands, etc. I would appreciate it tremendously. I'm a bit overwhelmed with everything I need to do in the next 4 weeks......so I will take all the help I can get :p

it all depends on your preferences. I will not cook on electric. I like gas stoves. As for wall ovens vs. ranges, what is your kitchen set up for? If you are doing a total remodel and have the room, I say go with the separate wall oven. They are more stylish. I also hate anything GE. Definitely go with the brushed chrome look. Very upscale.

Thanks. yeah I am not a fan of GE either. As it is I am stuck with a GE refrigerator. I am leaning more towrds Electrolux, Bosch or Kitchen Aid.

Definitely doing stainless steel, no doubt.

You're not the 1st to make the electric comment - I may stick with gas. The electric just looks so easy to clean :o

My roommate bought a bosch dishwasher after researching several. It's very quiet and the dishes are clean and not spotty.

Stainless looks great and adds appeal-but its a major pain to keep clean!

whether to go with double ovens depends on your space and needs
but two ovens is very nice to have-especially if you do holiday meals

but absolutely go gas on the cook or stove top-unless you are thinking to spring for induction burners

and personally-id say get a salamander broiler if it fits the budget-they are awesome

once you step up to sub-zero, bosch, miele, wolf, viking etc, it gets expensive, really expensive

also, make sure you check consumer reports reliability ratings before dropping the cash

not sure if you need to sign up for that though

We have all Fridgidaire products. Energy efficient and brushed chrome.
They are fine, but I think in retrospect, I would have liked the fridge with the French doors...I don't know.
Make sure they are energy efficient. They may cost a little more, but worth it.
I will hopefully never have to cook with an electric stovetop ever again. I can't see it. :o
GE makes a Cafe line that looks really awesome. And they have double ovens and even a double dishwasher!
My girlfriend put their line in her new kitchen and I love it and so does she.

gas cooks better, or so i've heard. and i agree with 'get right'...stainless, if you can swing it, is a nice deal. i have a stainless electrical stove from whirlpool with a flat surface. it may not cook as nice as gas, but it works nice, looks nice, and is easy enough to clean.

i can't believe i just answered this with that much detail!
I love to turn you on

I don't understand the loyalty to gas stoves. To me, it's all the same, lol. :)

My mom has one of those glass electric cooktops and she loves it, and it is very very easy to clean, which is why I like it. (I'm a messy cook. :o )

I'd have to see how the room is set up to decide whether or not you'd want the wall oven. Do you have room for a wall oven and then an island cooktop? That seems to be pretty popular. You should go to hgtv.com for ideas. They have all kinds of tips about how to set it up, and photo galleries and stuff.

This is exciting. :D I am DYING to redo our kitchen, but we probably won't ever want to invest in a huge upgrade while living in this house so I have to keep dreaming until we move in a few years. :D

ya know it! in my car! uh, i mean at my car! tailgating post-show, or barhopping (as much as we can!) i'm going down there early on friday and getting a good parking spot and then hoofing it over to the bar. then shuttling back to the show, and then afterwards it's a free for all!
I love to turn you on

larchmont is FULL of people migrated in from NYC. It is a walking town which makes it popular. Yards are minimal. It's like NYC in the burbs. I need a smiley w/a tongue to stick out at you!!!! 32 minutes from manhattan. you are probably further away!

I will have an island - but not deep enough to do the range there. plus i would have to re-run the gas line - more $$$$. The kitchen is big enough to do the wall oven and separate cook top. God this stuff all adds up......

I will make you feel better. Those stink b/c you literally cannot fit anything in the freezer. I had one, got rid of it - was thrilled to have a spacious freezer, and now the house I am moving to has that refrigerator again!! Can't even put a carvel ice cream cake in there!

    granite countertops?

I actually have a great granite guy - so I will be paying less for granite than that silestone stuff.

I am doing Kraftmaid cabinets through Home Depot - trying to do mid range appliances. Plus I have a bathroom to do and I would like central air...

Me too  . My sister has one of the duel ovens... one side electric other side gas, in case of power cuts or running out of gas. And both oven cook exactly the same

It is the gas stovetop that we are talking about so fondly. It is a completely different cooking experience. If all you are doing is boiling up some water for mac and cheese or frying an occasional egg, then go for the electric.

Also, I dont have a problem cleaning the brushed stainless. Why does everyone keep saying that? Just wipe it off. lol The hard part is keeping the black stovetop clean. Grrr...

We are doing our bathroom this summer and need to put in central a/c, too. Home ownership is just one expense after another, I've learned...lol. At least I enjoy the design/decoration aspect of it, or I would be losing my mind.

What exactly is different about it?

I have only recently gotten interested in cooking, and we have a gas stove. My previous cooking experience on an electric range is very limited, so I guess I don't really know what the difference is.
